Chapter 1

Starting a new school was definitely one of the things I least wanted to do this year, but I had no chose. It’s not like I could force my mum to take me back to Doncaster to the house that someone else lived in now. No. Definitely not, that would be very selfish, I needed to be strong for my mum, and her new job had better be worth it. That’s all I can say.

Walking into school on my first day I feared that people wouldn’t really be welcoming, I was right people weren’t exactly hating on me, but they weren’t exactly looking at me like a welcome new addition to the school education system.

The day was uneventful, lunch was probably one of the best periods of time, and I just sat at the edge of the room, keeping my eyes on my book. I really needed to get good grades, at my old school I was very laid back with my work, and now I really needed to get my head in the game and start to pull my own weight in school. God I swear I look like the worst kind of nerd sitting here with my glasses on nose deep in a book.

I could feel eyes on me, and I shifted my eyes around the room and found, to my relief I wasn’t drawing any attention. But my eyes settled on a blond boy, he looked cute, so I was bisexual. That should just be put out there in the open... though I’d not come out of the closet just yet. And I wasn’t enthusiastic about the school finding out anytime soon. I hadn’t even told my mother yet, or my sisters.

The bell rang and I should putting my stuff in my bag, and heading to my next lesson, I’d already memorised my least two lessons and the room number... just so I wouldn’t look like a total freak looking at my time table all the time.

I headed towards where I thought math would be without checking my map, pretty stupid idea, because my math room wasn’t in the arts block as some rude person informed me. Jeeze chill guys, it’s my first day give me a break. After getting directions of a nice young lady named Eleanor; I headed off towards the math corridor arriving 5 minutes late... not exactly a great start.

Mrs sent me to go sit at the back next to the cute blonde I’d noticed in the lunch room. Our eyes met and my knees went week. He had the most beautiful blue eyes I’d ever seen. Bright blue; Aqua blue. Like the ocean on those adverts for holidays in the Caribbean... soft and relaxing. Then he looked away looking as though he couldn’t care less that I was sitting next to him. As I took my seat I tried to break the ice by introducing myself.

“Hello, I’m Louis” I said. Smiling warmly, he looked at me, away from the teacher that was now writing things on the bored and settling people with pens.

“Niall” he stated his name in a strong Irish accent, not looking into my eyes. He went back to looking at the teacher. I just looked him confused. I was sorry that I’d bothered him. And followed suit and looked toward the front.

Mrs sorted me with an exercise book and a brief explanation as to what was going on. Though I already new, math was one of my strong points and I could grasp it easily. Half way through the tedious lesson my mind started to wander. Thoughts rolled through my head like the ending credits of a movie. (No one really paid attention to unless you were looking for something or bored shitless, and I was definitely bored.) As we started to answer the questions in the book I found within approximately five minutes I was bored again, finishing my questions with ease. My eyes wandered to the cute lad next to me, he was clearly struggling. I checked his answers and found at least half of them were wrong. I wanted to help him. I don’t know why, but I did, I was that sort of person, I wanted to help anyone who was willing to let me. I wasn’t sure how I was going to go about it though.

He stopped suddenly, I looked down at his work and worked out he was trying to figure out ‘9x6’ poor lad looked like he wanted to cry.
“54” I hissed gently. His eyes snapped up to me.
“I don’t need your help Louis. I knew that was the answer. I just couldn’t think straight” he snapped. I flinched at his words, the Irish accent making me feel all the more unwelcome.
“You’re welcome” I said, plastering a fake smile on my face and looking away from him. He wrote down the answer and pushed away the exercise book signalling he was finished. Mrs was coming round the room checking people’s progress and she looked over towards us in the corner and made her way over.

She looked through my book a smile growing on her face. She was actually really pretty, for a teacher.
“Well done Louis, you got all the algebra done and every one of them is right” she looked astonished, like this had never happened before in her class room. She put my book down and looked over at niall who was looking huffy and was looking out of the window at the rain that was pouring down.

She picked up his book scanned through and sighed.
“Oh niall” she said sympathetically. Somehow I felt like flinching for niall. I felt so bad for him, he clearly was having a hard time with math and it didn’t take a genius to figure out that this wasn’t the first time he’s failed to get all the answers correct. “Maybe you should start really considering that tutoring session I was talking about. Or maybe Louis here could help you, and explain it better to you than I can?” she said uncertain. She had a sweet voice, not like some of the old hags at my old school that would treat you like shit if you got a multiplication wrong.

He looked away from the window at her, sighed then looked at me. I smiled warmly at him. And I could see it in his eyes he wanted to smile back but the rest of his face stayed the same bored look.
“Whatever.” He said. Looking down at the book that was now lay in front of him. A saddened look came across his face followed by frustration.

Walking into science was just as awkward as every other lesson. Sir just waved me off and told me to find a seat. I looked around and noticed Eleanor (the girl I’d met before and gave me the directions to maths) over the other side of the room, we made eye contact and she smiled a sweet smile and beckoned me over to her. I smiled back and made my way over to her. She patted the seat next to her. And I sat down willingly.

“Hey Eleanor” I said.
“Hey Louis” she said flirtatiously. “This is Danielle” she pointed to a very beautiful girl with curly brown hair; she looked up from her exercise book at me and smiled.
“Hello” I said waving my hand awkwardly.
“So did you get to math okay?” she said flicking piece of her long brown hair off her shoulder and looking at me with a flirtatious smile.
“Yeah I did, thanks to you” I said smiling back. Eleanor seemed like such a lovely girl. It felt like I’d made a new friend already.
“It’s the least I could do after Zayn had been so rude to you.” She said “I mean, it’s not your fault you didn’t know where the maths corridor was. It’s your first day.” She looked over at Danielle who was looking awkwardly at her book.
“Ever since he’s started hanging around with your boyfriend, Dannie, he thinks he’s all that. I mean yeah, he’s hot but seriously? Who talks to people like that!” she said.  Danielle just looked up and nodded. I could see that she was feeling on edge and awkward. “I’m serious, Liam isn’t even like that, so why he thinks he can just walk around thinking he’s god’s gift I have no idea. Ahh” she let out a frustrated sigh. Danielle looked up with sympathetic eyes. She looked over at me and smiled.

“Zayn use to go out with El and I don’t think she’s quite over him just yet“, she gave me a sad smile.
“I AM OVER HIM DANI, I’VE TOLD YOU THIS OVER AND OVER!” she hissed loudly. Her face looked really angry. Danielle didn’t flinch she just looked at me with that face that said ’see what I mean?’ I smiled at her sympathetically. I really was starting to like Danielle. She seemed like the kind of person who was easy to get along with.
