                                                        Aftermath     

                                           “Two broken ribs. Right hands broken. Twelve stitches. Internal bleeding. Broken nose. Black eye. All in all it will take two months for the internal pain to subside…but it will take two more months for him to heal completely”

“Here’s the list of medicines and the time when he has to take it” the doctor said…his eyes wandering one by one to all our faces trying to figure out who was responsible for this lad on the hospital bed. I helped the poor man and took the list from his hand. He smiled at me

“You all may visit him now”

“Wait doctor…I will like to visit him first” we heard a man say, we turned out heads to see a police officer…wait POLICE OFFICER!?

“Sure sir. Kids wait for a few minutes” the doctor said without walking away to attend his other patients. The police officer walked in and my blood ran cold. What if Nish tells the police officer about bro hitting him so badly? What if the police arrests bro? What effect will it have on his future? What effect will it have on his parents? What if his parents decide to break any sort of contact with our family? What if bro decides to never see my face again? What if…

I sat on the chair nearest to me…apparently I wasn’t the only one thinking of the possibilities of the situation…

“M it’ll all be okay…don’t worry” Clar said kneeling down in front of me holding my hand

“Don’t worry M…don’t worry he won’t tell anything” Aadi said stroking my hair

“Why won’t he? Bro bashed him up…he landed up in a hospital to yell it out!” I said frustrated

“We’ll see about that if he does okay?” Aadi said and I nodded

“But…”I started but I stopped the minute I heard the door open.

“Weird kids these days” the officer said shaking his head in disapproval

“Let’s go in” rats said and got up

“No…let’s ask the officer first…he can lie to us” Afreen said. I nodded. Fear clenching my heart in its deadly claws. Fear for my best friend, for my protector, for my brother.

Afreen splinted to the officer

“Sir what does he say?” he asked trying to seem nonchalant

“He says that his injuries are caused by himself and not someone else.” The officer replied with a sigh

“What!” I asked shocked as I got up with a jerk

“Yes ma’am he said that his injuries are caused due to his own callous behavior” he said looking at me questioningly
