When you know what you want from life, and you act in a way

that helps you achieve the dream, soon you receive that dream.

The little girl dreamed of becoming a researcher. When she grew

up, her desire grew, and she gave a lot of time to the dream. She read

books about travel and secrets of ancient civilizations. But she kept all of

this secret from her family, especially from her father and brother

because females were not supposed to have these kinds of aspirations.

The girl's family was a part of an ancient Japanese dynasty and always

adhered to the traditions. The men were engaged in military craft, but in

peacetime, they earned money to support a family. The mother was to

train the girl in housekeeping until the girl became sixteen when she

should get married, to the man her father and brother would choose. The

future bride has no choice. And, if she refuses the decision about her

mate, she is publicly hanged. Since birth, the girls of the dynasty lose the

freedom of choosing. They become puppets in helping to maintain this

tradition through generations.

daughter, and now Sora has a chance. The mother gives Sora all the

money she has saved in secret.

are courageous, independent, and strong. You can handle it. You deserve

the best life." Tears come to Mother's eyes, but she wipes them away at

once and continues, "Live your life as for two – for yourself and for me."

Sora cannot say a word. Something has grown in her throat, and it

prevents her from saying anything. There are tears in her eyes, her hands

shiver, and apparently, her soul is about to burst. She embraces her mum

and says in a quiet and shivering voice, "I love you, and I will always

remember you. Thank you for the one present – life. Thanks for

everything." Sora kissed Mum. She and Sora are similar, but the life in

captivity has wrinkled Mum, and her tired eyes are acknowledgement of

that life. Sora moves away from Mum but holds her hand until the last

moment. The tips of their fingers disconnect, and during this moment

someone tries to open a door. There is shouting and someone beating on

the door. Sora grips a backpack and escapes in the dark night toward her

new life.

Sora comes to her senses when she sits in the seat of a high-speed
