It was Wednesday, typically, your lunch date with Lee. And yet, he was far from you as you walked through a park, taking in the rare moments you spent outdoors. You weren't happy, nor were you sad, you weren't even angry. Just, disappointed.
It had been two months since you last spoke to Lee, two months since you sent the email for your contact, Rm, and two months since you even considered forgiving the man you once thought was your best friend.
He was just an asshole.
Once, you would have been proud of him for getting a promotion, for getting a job that allowed him to travel like he always wanted to.
Yet, you weren't. The day you found out that he moved halfway across the world was the loneliest day you had in a long time, and, the most mind-boggling.
You remembered his words like an actor remembers a script.
"Hey, (Y/n), I uh- I'm just calling to say bye. I'm moving. Far. My job gave me a promotion a little while ago, and I know I should have told you sooner but I really didn't want to upset you. I'll be on the plane in a few hours. I'm sorry I never said bye- and- God, I'm sorry for whatever happens while I'm gone. It's nothing personal, trust me. They were just the terms, and if he tells you that I did it because I hate you, just know that I didn't."
At the time, you didn't know how to even begin to make sense of his words. It was a voicemail, you couldn't ask and he never picked up when you called. He didn't for a whole month. Then you stopped trying.
But, you eventually figured out what exactly he had done.
That's when you decided that you hated him.
And walking through the green park, following a path as a group of friends spoke about the recent crime committed by the 'Bangtan boys' a few steps ahead of you, you felt the anxiety of what Lee did twist you into nothing.
Your past wasn't a good one, it was riddled with things that you always feared would come back to haunt you. One of those things was a man. And unfortunately, that man now knew your address, a thing that you had hidden from your own family for an awfully long time. And now he knew it, it was likely that they knew it too.
Lee told him. Or, well, he told the company he worked with who then told the man.
You don't know why they would want to do that, what reason they had to bring you into something that you weren't involved in. But, you could guess it was related to your parents.
Assholes.
So as you walked, riddled with fear that made you glance behind you every two seconds, you hoped you would find your money soon.
You were on your way to a dead drop, the place where RM always left your money. And both of you respected the anonymity of the other. They told you they were leaving money, you waited until you knew it was there to pick it up. They wouldn't send anyone to see you, to trail you, and you would keep your distance while you knew they were there. You also didn't track them or hack. A fair deal.
Unfortunately, the dead drop was a bin. Specifically, it was a plastic bag placed beside a bin made to look like trash, while hidden under garbage inside it, piles of cash laid untouched. You always worried you looked like a raccoon when you picked it up, searching through the trash.
Maybe in your next life, you would be a raccoon.
That would be a fun life, right?
As you approached the bin, you decided to hang around for a while. You wanted to wait until you knew nobody was looking.
