"What about you, Lee? What are you doing?"

"I'm on my break," he sighed, presumably looking towards a clock as a huff escaped his lungs.

"Your break...?" You said, your voice filled with worry as you glanced towards the time displayed on the laptop screen. 2:34 am. That didn't seem right. "What are you still doing at work?"

"I uh... decided to stay overtime. A lot of paperwork got piled up and my job is pretty important... I think."

The man was still young, only in his twenties, but he was soft and sweet. He was more heart than man. He cared an awful lot, but not enough for his own mind. You knew him for years, he was a big part of your life and you had seen him change as you did. He was hard-working, independent, caring, soft, everything wonderful about the world. But he was so uncertain about his place in the world, he didn't know his worth as those around him did.

"Not as important as your health, don't stay too late. Okay?" You swallowed, watching the bar on your laptop fill as the seconds passed by.

"Okay." He paused, a new thought in his mind as he hoped to wipe away the topic of himself. "You're sure you're not doing anything too dangerous, right?" Lee asked, his voice still as quiet as ever. "Not like that one time when you forgot to hide your IP-"

"That was one time!" You laughed, stopping him before he could remind you of the full story, hoping to distract him even just for a moment. "They won't be able to find my IP this time, besides, I'm only sending this one in the form of a nice and tasty email! People love emails."

"Tasty email? I hate to tell you this, but I hate emails." He questioned your choice of words, only to receive another laugh from your lungs before continuing to speak his own spurred out words. "I'll miss that weirdness... Oh! Make sure you don't drink too many energy drinks, okay? I know how you can get."

Your voice fell quiet. You noticed his words, the ones before his motherly comment. 'I'll miss that'. While you weren't entirely certain what he was implying, you felt it may not be the best choice to push him too much. Especially since he already seemed so down and overworked. You continued, washing the fear away and began to speak, your tongue tasting a little sourer than it had seconds ago.

"Ooh, we just reached 97% This guy better not be as oblivious as he seems or else he's gonna get a nasty surprise when he sees this email!"

"Why are you doing that again?"

"These contacts I've been talking to have a scheme or something. Apparently it's related to some problems with a pretty big company. I assume they wanted me to distract somebody for a while with a virus. I don't know, I'm low on money and they had a job for me. It works out."

The job was a little more complex than that.

You didn't know who exactly you were working for, but, they didn't know who you were either. all they knew was that you could hack and that you could hack well. Hell, you once managed to get every electronic billboard in the city to say 'Steven Daley, give me my money', all because some guy refused to pay you for your work. He paid.

But, these contacts tended to have work a little more complicated than your typical side jobs of finding information online for people who paid you well enough. They liked causing a mess, a thing which you caused on the daily.

"I'm safe, don't worry, Lee."

"Good, always be certain." He paused. "Anyways, I should probably get back to work." He changed the topic quickly, his voice falling as yelling could be heard in the background. However, you decided not to mention it as he quickly spoke up, almost like an attempt to hide the obvious yells. "Bye, (Y/n)."
