So, that was the first installment of Section F.  Thank you for reading and I hoped you enjoyed the ride.  I certainly enjoyed writing it.

This book started life as a vague idea about a scientist who invented a machine that could bring story elements to life, and the government officials tasked with bringing him (and his creations) to justice.

I wrote a few hundred words (more or less those used at the start of chapter one) a few years ago, but then got distracted by other projects and other stories and general life stuff, and Fields and Peregrine were consequently relegated to the back-burner of my imagination.

Which is where they simmered away for a long time, occasionally popping into my consciousness, but not really going anywhere, at least not until the 2018 edition of the Wattpad Ambassador's Open Novella contest came along.

Despite a sincere and fervent conviction that I was NOT going to enter (after the 2017 version rudely interrupted the book I was writing at the time, stole my life for about six months and resulted in a fully-fledged novel, rather than a novella), one of the prompts bore a kind of a vague resemblance to my simmering story idea, which meant that, well...I sort of did enter.

The result?  The rude interruption of the book I was writing at the time, the disappearance of six months of my life, and another fully-fledged novel (AKA Section F), rather than a novella.

Clearly, I have completion issues.

Still, no regrets (well, not about the book, anyway).  The concepts are preposterous, the science is dubious and the prose frequently more purple than prose really should be, but I'm nevertheless happy with how the whole preposterous, dubious, purple-prosed shebang (more or less) turned out.

I can't guarantee there will be a sequel, but I'm hopeful it will happen.  I now have three (potential) series underway (The Baristas, The Blade and Section F), along with a family and a full-time, self-employed job and consequently writing time is just a little tight.  I've grown quite attached to Fields and Peregrine though, so fingers crossed (although not strictly a sequel, I have written a Christmas-themed Section F short story called F the Halls, which can be found on my profile (link in the comments)).

Anyway, thanks once again for spending a little of your valuable time on this story.  It's a never-ending source of wonder and gratification to me when people enjoy what I have written, and I'm always sincerely grateful for every read, comment and vote.  You're all awesome.
