He looks over the spell once more noticing a very important fact. "I've never cast a spell of enchantment this powerful."

"Nothing less will kill it. Here." Gaius holds out a well used knife that sat out in the rain for too long. "Try. You have it within you. I know you do."

Merlin looks over the spell for the third time nodding. He holds the blade with both hands staring deeply at it. He felt the magic inside him stir, before he started chanting out the spell, "Bregdan anweald gafeluec."

They stare at the blade that doesn't change. They look at each other worriedly. Gaius takes a deep breath knowing he needed to have Merlin's back in this matter. "Don't worry, Merlin, we have plenty of time."

Lancelot walk carefully down the street checking over his shoulder every couple of seconds. His heart raced spotting Gwen house. He gently knocked on the door his heart pounding now for two reasons rather than one.

Gwen pulled the door open and Lancelot slipped in without invitation. "I'm sorry to disturb you, My Lady." He quickly apologized, guilt already eating ng up his stomach.

Gwen took a moment to respond shocked by his presence. "Lancelot, what are you doing here?"

He glanced arose and nervously like criminal that had just slipped past jail , which he sort of had. I have no time to explain. I need weapons, armour, and the best you've got." Lancelot hissed not wanting to be overheard.

Gwen eyebrows knitted together. "But what's this all about?"

"Arthur stands in mortal peril. I must do what I can to protect him. It's my duty. Knight or not." Lancelot explained. Gwen couldn't help but smile at the just man. He was what all wished Arthur to be and more.

"You really believe that, don't you?"

"Yes, My Lady."

"Lancelot, I don't believe I've ever met your like before." Gwen marveled, her eyes twinkling in the moon light.

Lancelot gave her a loving smile glancing at the moon remembering Arthur was out there racing towards his death. He couldn't entirely explain were his sense of duty came from, but he trusted it to his very core.

He took Gwen's hands getting her full attention. "Guinevere, if I should not return..."

"Don't go, Lancelot. Please." Gwen cut off putting a finger to his lips.

Lancelot gently pulled her hand away kissing the back of her hand. "But go I must."

Sighing Gwen nodded gathering the material he would need if he had any hope of surviving.

--

Merlin groans in frustration, tossing the book aside. He rubbed his face feeling the stress consuming him. Arthur was out there about to get himself killed all because his father was stupid and because Merlin couldn't do one simple spell.

Gaius waddled over rubbing the young warlocks back. "Don't worry, Merlin. I know you're trying." He reassured. Merlin nodded in his hands taking a couple calming breaths before speaking.

"And I'm failing. And if Arthur dies because I'm not good enough..."

"Merlin!" Gaius cried. He knew Merlin was having a hard time, but negative thoughts would get neither of them anywhere. Gaius was about to give a quick lecture about positive thinking, fortunately for Merlin Gwen came to the rescue.
