Chapter Nineteen (V)

Start from the beginning

While flattered she didn't really feel she deserved it. She had only scared the beast away. "All I know is it's still out there." She reminded her dad that it wasn't all that much of a success.

"Let's not wait for it. The kingdom has been menaced by this creature for too long. We finish this now." He declared as they sat down at the table to figure out how to kill the monster.

The doors groaned opened guards on either side as a older man walked in at a rushed speed. "Sire, if I may."

Uther's brows furrowed together curious as to why his dear friend was visiting him at a meeting that had nothing to do with his work. "Gaius?"

"I've been researching this creature, Sire. I believe it to be a griffin." He opened a book he had been caring showing a picture that loosely resembled the creature Artura had encountered moments before.

Not familiar with the name he pushed Giaus to go deeper int detail. Giaus looked around the room worriedly, he lowered his tone so Artura barely caught what he explained. "The griffin is a creature of magic."

"I don't have time for this, physician." Uther reminded him so enjoying the silly joke. Artura came closer looking deeper at the picture.

She stepped in remembering her failed attack and how she had to use the fire to win if you could even call it that. "I'm not so sure, Father. I think there may be some truth in what he says."

Uther scowled at his disappointment of a daughter. "What truth?"

Artura shifted under his gaze. He hated the mention of magic she didn't exactly understand why as he had never told her of where the hate had come from. She was raised to hate magic, but a small voice always fought against it pleading that they were like her having to hide themselves just to be safe, she didn't pity them but sympathized with them and wanted to argue that maybe all magic wasn't bad. It was like saying every person was good and that was a definitely not true so where did they hate of such a broad thing come from. Now wasn't the time to question her fathers hatred.

To convince his of the creatures power she need something he would understand and not argue with. "The griffin was unharmed, Sire. Our weapons seemed useless against it." She spoke not as his kid but as a knight following orders because at this moment that was how he viewed her regardless of her achievements.

"Useless? I think not. No, it's tasted our steel once, the next time will be its last. When will your knights be ready to ride again?" He father dismissed such silly idea they hadn't been using their strongest weapon therefore Artura had no proof of it being 'magical'.

Sighing she caved into her father's wishes, she had no way of getting magic so what was the point of arguing. "An hour. Maybe two."

"Good. We finish this tonight." He declared to the whole group firmly.

Merlin looked over at Giaus curiously. "Is it true? The griffin can only be killed by magic?"

Giaus sighed, "Yes, Merlin. I'm certain of it. If Arthur rides out against it, he'll die." Merlin frowned at those words.

He thought about his secret and what may be at risk. "Then he must be stopped. Uther must see reason." He wasn't sure how Uther would see reason it felt like a joke that he would see reason.

"Where magic is concerned, our King is blind to reason. And yet...magic is our only hope." Giaus noted feeling that they needed to be desperate.

Merlin's eyes widen not believeing what he heard. "You're not suggesting..."

"It is your destiny, Merlin. The true purpose of your magic." Giaus declared before him going against everything he had said before this moment.

Merlin glanced at the window pointing at the window worriedly. "You saw it, Gaius. I can't go up against that thing."
Giaus nodded sadly. "But if you do not, then Arthur will surely perish." He didn't want the young warlock to perish, but the 'prince' dying wasn't appealing either.

"No...this is madness. I don't have magic that powerful. There must be another way." Merlin knew only so many spells and he was still pretty new to magic and wasn't really at a place where practice was completely available.

Giaus shook his head. "This is the only way."

Merlin: "Do you even care what happens to me? Oh, just do this, Merlin. Do that, Merlin. Go and kill the griffin, Merlin. I'll just sit here and warm my feet by the fire." Merlin ranted. He felt like his life was at constant risk and Giaus didn't came he showed so much worried towards Arthur. Merlin guessed he knew him longer.

Giaus was taken a back by this. He saw Merlin as his own son. "Merlin! Merlin, you are the only thing I care about in all this world. I would give my life for you without a thought. But for what? I cannot save Arthur. It is not my destiny. You know." He cared for many people but Merlin would forever hold a place in their heart.

"I'm sorry." Merlin was hit with guilt.

"I don't know what else I can say." He informed Merlin he regretted trying to get Merlin to go out.

Merlin face formed into determination. He spoke with a new found confidence. "I'll say it for you. We have two hours to find a way to kill that thing."

A.N: 10K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy Crapola guys you are so freaking incredible I never thought I would get this far!!!!! I hope you are all staying safe during this hard times! I (being an extreme introvert) love quarantine. I'm a bit bored but that's fine I don't feel as bad for not interacting with people. Me and my best friend have started chilling again so that's a relief. Look to the positive it may look dark but there will always be dark.

Issue #19:How should Artura feel about magic, is she completely influence by her dad or is there sympathy thanks to her personal situation?
