Dress

I woke up early the next day. The sun hasn't been rising yet. Siguro ay naninibago ako kaya kahit hindi ako madaling nakatulog kagabi ay maaga akong nagising. I decided to take a quick shower so I can go out and walk a bit.

Pagkatapos kong maligo ay naghanap ako ng damit sa closet. Most of my clothes are shirts and shorts dahil konti lang naman ang kaya kong dalin noong umalis ako. Few pairs of clothes and mostly my money.

Binuklat ko naman yung bag na hinanda sakin ni Maeve, nandoon ito sa sasakyan na siya rin ang naghanda para sa akin. I didn't even know how she got the help dahil wala naman siya sa bansa kung nasan ako noon.

But it's easier if she will do it so nobody will suspect anything from me. Nakailang labas na ako ng damit ay wala akong makitang pwedong isoot. Most of them are sundresses that I think are too much for the morning. Tingin ko ay masyadong magarbo kahit simple lang naman. Well, it's just isn't my type.

I pick up the simplest white dress in my eyes. I sighed and made sure that I should arrange all my clothes later. I comb my hair and decided to go out. Mamaya na ako kakain dahil maaga pa naman. There's also a lot of food and I'll just reheat it later.

I got an envelope by the cold wind the moment I step out. It's the kind of the usual cold in the morning that's tolerable. The lights on the palm trees are bright and it helps to overcome the dark.

I heard a few voices and saw the lights in the market. May mga bangka din sa dagat na tingin ko ay kararating lang galing sa pangingisda. Everyone is busy and I can't help but smile at the simple and ordinary ways in here. I've never seen so many people or socialize with many people back in my days.

Noong high school ay bantay sarado ako. School and house are my only place.

Even though nobody knows that I'm the daughter of Macimilian, yes, I used Macimilian but if somebody asks me if I'm related to them and I'll just immediately say no. Iyon ang sabi ni Daddy and that's a rule. It's for the safety he says. That time I don't understand, safety from what? Oh well, dealing with illegal drugs does need safety.

Only Maeve knows the truth about me.

I decided to walk in the market's direction. Wala akong kilala sa gawing kaliwa dahil napansin ko rin nasa bandang ito sila Manang Tessie. I almost had a heart attack when I saw someone standing not far away from me.

From his broad shoulders and really huge body frame, I will run if he didn't seem familiar. I sighed and look away. Ang aga aga pa pero gising na din siya. Well, sabi ni Lisa kailan lang iyan dito kaya baka naninibago parin.

I tried to smile but his face remains serious, eyebrows slightly knotted. Oo nga, para siyang laging galit. I felt uneasy and my heart slightly increases in its normal beat. I need to walk in front of him in order to go forward.

Then I should! I licked my lips and continued to walk. Hindi manlang siya gumalaw sa pwesto. That's a bit... rude. But people won't like you always anyway kaya hindi ko nalang siya pinansin.

"You shouldn't walk alone at this time. It's still dark," his husky, manly, very manly voice filled my ears.

Napahinto ako at hindi ko alam kung lilingon ako at kung lilingon ako, ano naming sasabihin ko? And one thing, is he even talking to me? Well, he got to be because we're the only people here unless he sees something I don't.

"Yeah, I just..." I looked at him and his face didn't even change. "I can't go back to sleep..." I continued. Hindi naman niya ako sinagot kaya kumunot ang noo ko at umalis nalang doon.
