Hello and welcome to my newest work The Girl in the Shadows. This is something that I've been working on for the past couple of months now. It first started out as a short story assignment for my Creative Writing class and has since bloomed into the work you're about to read.

When I was initially writing Carmen's story I had a simple idea of what I wanted to do. It started out as the first part of this mini interwoven trilogy I wanted to create, but I ended up having Steven's story come first. If you're finding this story first and haven't read The Boy Walking on Lies please know that you don't need to know the events in that story to be able to follow The Girl in the Shadows. While they are connected, each story happens in the same timeline with the same events just told from various perspectives. However, it should be noted that I believe the best way to read this series and get the most out of the characters and storyline is by starting with Steven's and then coming to Carmen's.

The Girl in the Shadows is probably the story I had the easiest time writing as it's in a genre I'm most comfortable and familiar with. While writing, it was like saying hello to an old friend and I quickly became lost within the world and characters surrounding her. I loved creating every aspect of the storyline and am overjoyed to finally be able to share it with you. Please be warned that this story focuses on depression and does confront the issue of cutting. There's also physical illness in which one deals with cancer as well as lightly touching on LGBTQ+ topics so, if any of these are triggering to you I would recommend thinking over if this is the book for you.

With all of that said and out of the way I want to give one last thank you for coming to read The Girl in the Shadows. I hope you enjoy.

Side Note: The cover for this book is done by @scribbly_writer so definitely check them out! They also did the cover for The Boy Walking on Lies and are so incredibly talented. So, thank you for this beautiful cover.
