12. Sometimes it Doesn't Work.

"Wrong choice." Klaus gives her his blood as Ray starts to drink the blood from the man. "She'll thank me for that later." Klaus snaps her neck. "Okay, who's next?" Klaus' eyes are yellow and his fangs are out. Lilith smiled at the group.

"There. Good as new. Now you relax, okay, mate? We're gonna need you when the rest of them wake up." Klaus says as he compels one of the humans. Ray is sitting on a rock nearby, grabbing his body and shivering.

"They're dead. They're all dead." Ray kept mumbling and Lilith looked at him with a raised eyebrow.

"What's up with him?" Lilith asked her lover who turned to face her.

"Ah, he's through his transition. He should be feeling better soon." Lilith nodded.

"So is this your master plan? Build an army of hybrid slaves?" Stefan asked as he crossed his arms.

"No, not slaves. Soldiers, comrades."

"For what war, might I ask?"

"Oh, you don't arm yourself after war has been declared, Stefan. You build your army so big that no one ever dares pick a fight." Klaus says as he wraps an arm around Lilith's waist.

"What makes you so sure that they'll be loyal?"

"Well, it's not difficult to be loyal when you're on the winning team. That's something you'll learn once you shake that horribly depressive chip off your shoulder." Stefan laughs.

"That's why you're, uh...you're keeping me around? To witness my attitude adjustment?" Stefan shakes his head. Klaus looks at Ray. He sits next to him, and examines his face. Ray's eyes are bleeding.

"You'll know why I'm keeping you around when I've decided that I want you to know." Klaus said to Stefan before he looked at Ray.

"Something's wrong." Lilith walks closer to Ray and grimaces at his bleeding eyes.

"That shouldn't be happening, should it?" Stefan asks quickly.

"Obviously." Lilith rolled her eyes. Ray starts shaking even more and his eyes bleed heavily.

"You said it was gonna feel better. Why doesn't it feel better?" Ray asked.

"Some master race." Stefan said.

"Lose the attitude." Klaus orders as the woman wakes up. "Derek, come feed your girlfriend." Klaus stands up and Ray also jumps to his feet. He snarls before running away. Klaus looks at Stefan. "Go get him." Stefan ran after him.

Stefan jumps on Ray and pushes him on the ground. Ray bites him and runs once more. Stefan is about to get up and go after him but stops when he hears Damon and Elena's voice. Stefan gets up and sees them walking from a distance. Klaus arrives behind him and Stefan starts walking in Klaus's direction so Klaus won't see them.

"Where did he go?" Klaus asked.

"He, uh...he got away. Forget him. Let's go." Klaus sees Stefan's not and grabs his arm.

"A fatal werewolf bite. Ouch." Lilith says as she appears out of nowhere.

"Yeah. I'm gonna need your blood to heal me." Stefan looks at Klaus.

"Well, I tell you what. You find Ray, and then I'll heal you." Klaus says and Stefan pauses.

"Can't be serious." Stefan says as his shoulders sag.

"You better hurry, 'cause that bite looks nasty." Stefan runs off. Klaus and Lilith go back to the campsite and sees the others are waking up. All of their eyes are bleeding.

"Bad news, my friend. End of the road for you." Klaus says to Derek, one of the humans in the camp. Derek offers no resistance as Klaus kills him by drinking his blood. The woman is standing in front of him.

"Careful, love. There's only one Alpha here." Klaus says as Lilith looks around. All the werewolves are staggering around the camp, their eyes bleeding. They look like zombies.

"Bloody hell." Lilith said and Klaus agreed with a nod.

Stefan walks back to camp back with Ray over his shoulders. The rest of the pack are lying on the ground dead. Stefan drops Ray on the ground. "They went rabid. Some of them, I killed. The others just...Bled out. In the end...They're all dead." Klaus didn't look up as he spoke. Stefan looked around for Lilith but she was no where to be seen.

Klaus yells and throws the bottle of beer in his hand. He screams at the sky. "I did everything I was told!" Klaus calms down and continues to speak. "I should be able to turn them. I broke the curse. I killed a werewolf. I killed a vampire. I killed the doppelgänger." Stefan grows uncomfortable.

"You look like hell." Klaus said as he finally looked at Stefan.

"Last I checked, I'm dying...and you don't want to heal me." Klaus looks down at Ray's body. "I had to take him out. I didn't have a choice. I failed you. I'm sorry. Do what you have to do." Stefan said quietly.

"It should have worked." Klaus said, just as quiet, as he grabs an empty bottle of beer. He bites his hand, makes a fist, puts the blood draining from it in the bottle and holds the bottle out to Stefan. "Bottoms up. We're leaving." Stefan takes the bottle and drinks from it before turns to head down the mountain.

Klaus stays behind but before he can leave Lilith returns, blood dripping from her mouth. She paused at the sight of the campsite. Lilith looks at Klaus' devastated face and she runs over. Lilith wraps her arms around Klaus neck and pulls him into her her. Klaus wraps his arm around Lilith's waist as he breathes in her scent. Lilith pulls back to tilt Klaus' face up.

"What happened, my love?" Lilith asked gently, showing a side of her only Klaus gets to see.

"They died. All of them." Klaus says as he leans into her touch. "It didn't work." Klaus said, completely broken and tired. Lilith smiles sadly.

"It will work out eventually, it always does." Klaus' blue eyes lock into Lilith's as she speaks. "You're a thousand years old, my love, and you've broken the curse placed on you. You can do anything you know this...sometimes it just takes a few tries." Lilith says as she smiles at him while caressing his cheek with the back of her hand.

"Thank you, love. You always know what to say." Klaus smiles, coming out of his depressive mood, and Lilith chuckled.

"I'm your wife it's my job." Klaus laughed. "Now, why don't you and I pay a visit to an old friend. It's time to head back to Chicago."

"I believe your right, love." Klaus said before he pulled Lilith into a kiss. Lilith was right...it's time to head back to where it all began.
