Emily's Pov

Finally.

Its finally lunch. Alex and I only had one class together since she's a year older than me.

She's the most fantastic person I've met. She even told me that I would be meeting her boyfriend tonight at the 'Annual First Dance,' which she is making me go to.

I sighed as Alex pulled me away from the lunch line after getting our food and walked towards an empty table.

She took the seat on the other side of the table so that we were facing each other.

"So, what are you going to wear tonight?" She asked while taking a bite of her burger.

"I don't know," I said while shrugging.

"Well, I'm going to help you get ready tonight. You can even borrow one of my dresses," she stated.

"No-no, you don't have to-" I started, but she cut me off.

"Of course I do. That's what friends are for," she said, and I couldn't help but smile.

A few minutes went by as we ate, and I had this weird feeling that someone was staring at me, but I just shook the off.

"Hey...Uhm, Emily?" Alex said, making me look away from my plate of food.

"Yeah?" I mumbled with a mouth full of food.

"There is a guy who keeps staring at you," she said, making me chuckle a little.

"Nah, I doubt that maybe he's staring at you," I said while shrugging my shoulders.

"No-no, he is staring at you," she stated while looking behind me.

I sighed as I shifted my body and turned my head, scanning the cafeteria. I was about to tell her that she just imagined things, but then my eyes landed on Luke's.

We held each other gaze for a while until the girl that he was making out with earlier today sat next to him and grabbed his attention.

I turned back in my seat, and I could feel my heartache. I thought that after all this time, I could be over him, but I guess not.

"Do you guys know each other?" Alex asked while resting her arms on the table and leaning in so that she was a little closer.

"We went to high school together," I said like it doesn't matter.

"Is that it?" She asked, making me groan quietly.

"No. He and his mom lived with my mom and me," I said.

"And?" She asked, making me roll my eyes.

I was going to tell her to leave it alone when the bell rang, making me sigh in relieve.

**********

"Wow," I muttered as I looked at myself in the body length mirror.

"Are you ready?" Alex asked as she walked out of the bathroom.

When her eyes landed on me, she stopped dead in her tracks. "Oh my god, Emily. You look amazing," she gushed with a bright smile on her face, which I gladly return.

"Thanks," I mumbled as I grabbed my clutch and walked over to the door with Aled following.

"Are you excited?" She asked with a happy tone.

"I guess," I said, not interested.

"Come on, Emily. You look amazing. Don't be surprised if a few guys try to make a move on you tonight," she said while winking at me, and I couldn't help but chuckle at the thought.

"Who knows, maybe that guy from lunch would try something," she said with a smirk on her face.

My smile faded as I remembered Luke. What if he's there. My night would be certainly horrible when I see him and that girl again.

At this moment, I want to run back to the dorm and cry my eyes out, but I have to be strong. Make him believe that I've moved on from my past and that he doesn't mean anything to me.

Just remembering everything we have been through breaks my heart. All the kisses on the cheeks, the hugging, the cuddling, and all the good things that have happened.

But then there is the bad. The fact that he actually kissed Elizabeth. Maybe that was the only reason she was hanging out with me or worse, maybe that's the reason HE was hanging out with me.

Thinking about that makes things so much clearer right now. Neither of them wanted to be my friends. They were only using me.

God I'm an idiot. I can't believe I haven't realized this before.

As of this moment, Luke means absolutely nothing to me.
