I Am the Moon

You may not see me
But I'm always there.
Just orbiting around
But do you really care?

Am I only some mission,
Some scientific toy?
Do I count for anything,
Other than for your joy?

You stamp on me, cut me,
Use me for your gain.
Experiment on me, land on me,
Yet you don't feel my pain.

Your rockets cause havoc,
Your flags don't belong.
"One small step for man"-
You got that wrong.

I'm not here for your amusement.
I help Earth night and day.
This is not what I deserve,
Not how you should repay.

I am the moon.
Definitely not independent, but all alone.
I deserve respect,
Which you have not shown.

You may not see me
But I'm always there.
Just orbiting around
But do you really care?
