You went to line up with the rest of the girls, facing away from the band that was currently on the field (because coach Katherine said it was bad luck to watch someone else's show before performing your own).

"You girls are going to crush it," Katherine looked around and smiled, meeting everyone's eyes one by one. "You're gonna go out there and perform your heart out, and even if you feel as if the panic will overtake you in the beginning, it won't. Your body remembers what to do. Count, feel the music, and make sure to relax, alright?"

Everyone nodded.

"Good luck, I'll meet up with you guys again after you finish performing, I'll be watching from the stands." With that, she left with the other assistant coach, Jadyn, to head up to the bleachers.

You caught Peter's eye as you scanned the area. "You'll do great," he mouthed, giving you a reassuring grin.

You flashed him a small smile and a thumbs-up in response.

The announcer's booming voice came over the loudspeakers as the previous band finished and exited the field. "Please welcome from Queens, New York, Midtown High School's Marching Band and Colorguard!"

A loud burst of applause sounded across the stadium as the band members began pushing the props onto the field.

"5, 6, 5, 6, 7, 8," you heard whispers sound out from around you, and the music started.

You found yourself getting lost in the music and for a moment, forgot that you were actually performing at state champs, and felt as if it was just you, with the band, doing your own thing. The work came to mind surprisingly easily, flowing together neatly and when you finished off your solo with the 6 on rifle, everyone started cheering wildly because the catch was so clean.

Movement 1 zoomed by in a flash, as well as movements 2, 3, and 4 which followed along not long after. The part where the high brass members danced with some of the guard girls came up in the closer, and you thanked the heavens that your makeup hid the blush that was creeping up your face from yours and Peter's faces being mere inches away.

In the middle of your flag feature that you were engrossed in, you looked up for a brief moment as the audience went wild to see the Avengers in the stands towards the back near the box, smiling and cheering (in disguise, of course. Bucky hated fangirls).

The final note was played and everyone stood up from their spots to give your band a standing ovation. Jesus Christ, your cheeks hurt from holding your smile for so long.
