Damn.. damn near an entire month w/ no update on this book. I'm sorry y'all. This a short chapter but I wanted to put out some.

"Thank you for shopping with us, come again." I said as the customer grabbed her bags. She smiled and proceeded out of the store. The line was extremely long so I came to help out the cashier.

I let out a sigh,"What time is it?" I said to myself as I walked towards my office.

"Break time." I heard a familiar voice say

I turned around and it was Chris.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, surprised.

"I haven't been here for years so I decided to stop by and miraculously you were here."

"Or you just wanted to come see me?" I asked with a raised eyebrow

"That's a likely possibility too." He smiled

I glanced at the time on my phone that sat on my desk, "Yeah, it is break time." I said and grabbed my wallet out of my desk drawer.

"Where we eating?"

"We?"

"I didn't drive all the way here to look at you." He chuckled

I smiled, "Well, I was just going to go find something quick that's typically walking distance." I said

"Let's get to walking then." He said and I followed behind him out of my office.

I locked my office door before we walked outside.

"This breeze is amazing." I said as we walked slowly

"Yeah I know." He replied

"How you been though, Chris? We don't talk much about you."

"I've been fine. My business is doing well, our kids are healthy, I don't have anyone stressing me out— life treating me well." He said

"Is it really?" I asked

He nodded, "Yeah. I mean I don't have anyone to wake up to every morning or in the middle of the night but it's not holding anything back."

"I would like to think it isn't, Ive never been the type that needed someone by my side every second and step of my life but I guess that's where you and I are different at." I said

I peeked at him from the side of my eye to see if he had caught the shade but he continued to stare at the ground as we walked.

When we made it to the food place of my choice he opened the door for me and allowed me to walk in first. We both were next up in line. I ordered and then he proceeded.

When it was time for me to pay he insisted on covering my fee.

"Kyra?? Chris?!" I heard someone say

I turned around and it was someone from our high school days.

"Oh— hey." I said, not remembering her name.

"Do y'all remember me? We went to high school
together." She smiled

"Yeah, yeah I remember you." Chris said, following with a confused face. I knew from his facial expression that he didn't remember her.

"It's been so long and y'all still are together, that's amazing. I always love seeing high school sweethearts together." She excitedly explained

"We're—" I started but Chris cut me off.

"Yeah, it's practically unheard of." He said

"I'm surprised you two don't have any kids together." She said

"We have two. You're 9 and 11 years late." I smiled

"Oh wow! I'm so happy for you two, it was good seeing you both." She said

I returned the comment and allowed her to be on her way.

"Boy, was that awkward." I said with raised eyebrows.

"Only for you, I like running into people and them still seeing us together."

"But we're not... and I don't know if we ever will be." I said

When he didn't reply I looked up and he was mean mugging me.

"So you don't have any hope for us?" He asked as we grabbed our food that was now ready.

"Not that- it's just it'll take me forever and a decade to even think to put my trust back into you again." I said

He started to reply but we begin entering into a seating area with more people.

"We'll discuss this when we have a bit more privacy." He said

I agreed without speaking.

Our lunch was silent for the most part. I believe he was a bit annoyed by the previous conversation or maybe his feelings were hurt or maybe both.

"When I save up enough I'll be moving out, and that'll be here In another month maybe." I explained to my mom.

I've been off for 3 hours now. I came in, showered, ate and now I'm chilling.

"You ready for that?" She asked

I rolled my eyes in the hardest manner.

"I'm grown, I've lived on my own before, I make my own money and the list continues." I said in an overly annoyed tone.

"Don't get slapped in ya' mouth, Kyra." My mom replied and gave me a stern look.

I straightened my face expression and tweaked my
tone.

"That's all I need to hear, is that you're ready. I don't want you rushing because you think I'm tired of you or something." She said

"Definitely not what I was thinking."

"What about the kids?" She asked

"I was trying to arrange for Chris to allow them to live with me again, and he get them on weekends but we haven't really came up with a solid agreement just yet." I said

"Don't stress about it now, you two will cross that bridge when you get to it." She assured me.

I would hope so, because it seems like every thing him and I talk about gets to nowhere— but an argument or disagreement.
