Far warning, this is going to be angsty and a bit depressing. If you are triggered by this please do not continue. This will be a high PG-13 rated chapter because of intensity of it and more adult ideas (including blood, torture, swearing). Read at your own risk.
The world isn't right.
That was the first thought that drifted into Adora's head as she sat up in her bed, the thought dragging away any remainders of sleep.
"Adora, what's wrong?" A sleepy voice purred, a light coo emerging from the person's mouth as they awoke.
"Nothing, it's nothing. I just had the strangest feeling." Adora muttered, shaking the thought away as she ran a hand through her tangled hair.
"You want to talk about it?" The person questioned as they rubbed her back, smoothing away the worry.
"No. It's fine, I'm fine. I think I just had a weird dream."
"Alright, come back to bed, it's getting cold."
Tucking her legs back into the covers, Adora snuggled back into the warmth of the sheets. An arm draped over her, wrapping around her waist. A soft kiss graced her neck as she breathed out a sigh.
"Hey Adora?"
"Yeah?"
"You love me right?"
"Of course why would you-" Adora began but was cut off by a kiss.
"That's all I needed to hear."
Slowly, everything faded away. The warmth, the fuzzy feeling of being happy and safe, comfort. Adora was left shivering- alone.
What? Where'd she go? What is going on!
"Hey, Adora!" A voice shouted, pulling her out of the dark place she had spiraled into.
In front of her was a sweeping landscape covered with buildings, tech, lights, all glittering as far as the eye could see.
"What, weren't we just in bed?"
"No, that was hours ago. Are you feeling alright?" Her partner asked, ears pricking at her words.
"No, I don't know." Adora murmured, hands flying up to her head. "I don't know any more."
"Shh, it's alright, it's all going to be okay. I've got you. Why don't we go get you checked out. In case you hit your head or something." The other asked, wrapping her elbow around Adora's to steady her as they walked back through the buildings.
As they traveled, the hallways seemed to slip, slide sideways, tumbling, falling. Collapsing.
"Ca-"
Then the world was still again. Dark. Alone.
What it the hell is going on. Where is she? Where am I? I can't remember. Wait- there is something I needed to do. Someone, someone is responsible. Who? Who was it? The world is breaking, I have to-I have to-
"-Just seems like a minor concussion. Nothing serious but you should keep an eye on her for the next few days. Bring her back if anything changes." A male voice spoke, stirring Adora out of her thoughts.
"Huh?" Adora spluttered, looking around. The scenery had changed once again. Now they were in the infirmary. White sheets atop metal framed beds. White lab coats. Antiseptic.
"Hear that, you're gonna just be fine. I just got to keep an eye on you." Her love spoke, giving her a smile, pointed teeth gleaming, bichrome eyes sparking back at her.
