Everyone is dead all of their life. The only time they will finally be able to hear is when they meet their soulmate. There soulmate's voice will be the only one they can hear until they finally find each other. Then the entire world of sound will open up. You've never heard your soulmate until you walk into your new job and say hello to your boss, signing the words along. You go to walk pass when your hear him/her say hello back.
