Beat Evil with Evil

"You monster!" I yelled. The vargulf luckily glanced at me. I maintained eye contact with it while trying to kill it, the same way I had killed the men that wanted to hurt Nadia. Nothing happened. Except the Roman reached the large hatchet and could now slay the vargulf.

But the vargulf snapped out of eye contact. As soon at Roman went to strike it, the vargulf tried to tear Roman's heart out. He gasped in pain.

No, no. He couldn't die. I got up from where Peter and Destiny were and ran to the vargulf. The vargulf had not succeeded in ripping his heart out but did manage to tear open his chest. Blood started spurting out of Roman's body. He needed help. Peter needed help. But this vargulf needed to die first.

I walked to the vargulf. It got off Roman and edged towards me. Roman, as an upir, was able to heal immediately from his external cuts and bruises. He would not die, but there was way too much blood loss happening.

"Do what you want to," I screamed. The vargulf was hurt. Roman had been successful in leaving a nasty cut beside its left hind leg when the hatchet fell.

I drew a deep breath, not even trying to think what would happen next. The vargulf let out a disgusting growl as it leaped into the air and landed on me. My head hit the ground with a thump and I was sure it was bleeding. I looked at the beast on top of me and tried to muster all my courage. There was nothing I could do. I was going to die. But if that saved Destiny, Peter, and Roman, I was willing to do it.

Right then, in the middle of all the chaos came a vision. A voice spoke and told me that because I was inherently evil, I could not beat evil. Evil can never beat evil. I shook my head, and the vision was gone. I was going to beat this thing.

The vargulf sniffed me and then I screamed in pain as it drove its teeth through my skin, muscle, and bone and started trying to rip my heart out. It had mistaken me for an upir but it was fine. My breathing began to slow down and my vision became fuzzy. Hot tears dripped down the side of my face as the vargulf tugged a last vein to completely remove my heart from my body.

The last sound I heard was of Destiny shouting before my senses began to come in and out. I felt the familiar metallic taste in my mouth as I coughed up blood.

The vargulf in front of me had my heart in its mouth. I continued coughing blood and realized I was still very much alive, even though my heart was ripped out. The vargulf dropped my heart. It then collapsed for a second before shaking itself. It let out a painful howl. Something was wrong. The vargulf left me alone too and tried charging towards Peter, but it couldn't. Instead, it was limping fast.

An injured Peter raised his head up from Destiny's lap. The wolf got up and noticed the mad, hate-driven vargulf come at him. He growled and with all the energy he had left in his badly injured body, charged against the vargulf. The wolf knocked the vargulf down and held it down with his paws. Then he distanced himself a little from the vargulf before diving into the vargulf's neck and completely ripped a chunk off. The vargulf started to bleed heavily, and it's breathing began to slow down.

Peter moved off and feebly walked towards me. So did Destiny. Destiny held the bloody back of my head and I looked at her. Then, I felt my eyes fill in with something. Destiny moved away. In the blood reflection on the ground, I saw my eyes were pitch black, and there was blood running down my cheeks instead of blood. I looked like a horrifying demon at last.

I looked at Peter, who had now turned back into human and Destiny who looked at me with fear. I closed my eyes and grabbed the both of them. They were afraid of what I was about to do, but I pulled them both into a hug. They didn't resist.

"The vargulf, it's dead. It's actually finally dead," Destiny said.

"All thanks to Peter," I said.

"No, actually you too. Peter couldn't have done it if you hadn't weakened the vargulf."

"What do you mean?" I asked Destiny.

"A demon's heart is possesses way too much darkness for any being to touch, even a vargulf," Destiny said.

I opened my eyes. "They're back to normal," said Destiny. "Oh but that means-"

"Yeah," I interrupted. "You all are so much more important."

A very weak and injured Peter smiled, "What'd you do, Si?"

Destiny shook her head at me and spoke up. "Demons. When their eyes turn like that for the first time and they bleed, that's sort of like an invitation to enter a realm of being completely demon. But when Sienna was going through that just now, she hugged us. An act of love and care. Her actions, they triumph her destiny. She rejected what she was meant to be for who she wants to be".

"Oh Si," whispered Peter, breathing heavily. "I love you."

"Love you so much more," I said. "We've got to call someone for help."

"I'll call Pryce," we turned to see Roman, his complete body drenched in his own blood. "We have no other option."

"You will all be fine. All of you. You included, Godfrey," Destiny said. "I am sorry I didn't help."

"Are you kidding? If you endangered yourself, all there would be is greater problems. Destiny, we need you to be okay. Otherwise, who was going to translate what happened to me. And everything else. Don't blame yourself," I said. "And I'll call Pryce," I looked at Roman.

Roman edged towards us, especially Peter. "You'll make it. If you leave me again, gypsy, I'll make you regret it." He gave out a small laugh.

Peter smiled and shook his head. "Never again," he said.
