The Dance of the Ducks

20 3 2

Her dress, a searing scarlet

Sweeps,

Rests,

And falls,

Across the petal covered floor

My mind goes numb

As joy sets in

The world grows small

A distant and distorted landscape

I don't care if I remember

For between my two arms

Is someone strangely kind

And wonderful

And pleasant

Sorrow, hatred, jealousy, pain

Fade and die

There is no place for them

In the world of the waddling figures

Dancing silently in our dimly lit world

In jest, I raise her hand

And spin myself like a hiccuping top

When I return to her, a smile is waiting

Spread across her lips is a reminder

That better times are always to come

The rotten and mold covered days

Can't hurt me when I am holding her

To be honest

I am the happiest I've ever been

When she rests her head on my shoulder

Her hair tickling my nose

As we waddle together

Stepping on each others toes

Laughing as we do

No longer driven by embarrassment or fear

We let go and embrace this happy moment

Head on, unflinching

The music soon dies away

The world starts to come back to focus again

Chattering and annoying it calls us

Back to reality

Oh what an unhappy man stands here now

Why are such happy times so fleeting?

But as I look at her

I am reminded

How lucky I am

To have even a second standing side by side with her

Looking in her eyes, words are lost to me

I find them when we part ways

Thank you for choosing to waddle with me
