Groaning out, or turning to my side and notice that Jessie isn't near me; listening out, I notice that the shower is running; sighing out in relief, I roll to face the bathroom door.

"good morning", Jessie smiles, coming out of the bathroom in just a towel

"morning", I mutter out, making her laugh

"Breakfast is in a few minutes, and then training" she smiles again

"We are not fighting in this one" I smile out, making her snap her gaze to me

"We can not just let our fighters fight without us", she growls, making me nod

"I know. I am going to talk to alpha reed about us and our men protecting the pack house instead" she looks at me but nods her head.

Walking downstairs, I notice the alphas looking at Jessie's neck. I smile to myself, knowing that it holds my mark. Sitting down, I dish us both up a bunch of food and smile to myself, knowing that it is going to taste amazing.

"alpha reed, I was thinking that my men and I could be the protectors of the people, not fighting; while I want to help, I also don't want to be apart from Jessie, I underestimated what the mark would do to me, and Jessie made the point that it wouldn't be fair for us to sit out and our fighters not" I observe as alpha reed thinks

"that's a brilliant idea. I didn't really think about people protecting the pack house," he smiles out, making me rub Jessie's thigh to show her that I knew what I was going.

Downing the food, I head outside with everyone else as we all train as a group.

"do we have to do another hundred" Jessie groans biting her lip and making me chuckle lightly

"yes dear, we do, five hundred laps, two hundred push-ups, hand-to-hand combat and then another hundred laps to finish", I state, re-emphasizing what we have already done and that after these hundred, we can retire for the rest of the day. It is nearly midday, but Jessie has been slacking with her training for the past month. I am impressed with how well she is doing, and I know I am not the only one; her first mate keeps looking at her as if he made the worst mistake of his life, which technically he did, but I am not going to complain.

"Finally", Jessie huffs, falling to the ground in pure joy

"Everything okay?" I question, making her nod

"peachy", she yells at me, gulping her water down and making me smile at her.

"Good, come on, let's head upstairs" I smile at her, pulling her along

"I'm tired", Jessie groans, making me nod in understanding

"we will watch tv, and you can fall asleep", I smile, pulling her into my side carefully.

I wake up with the door swinging open

"alpha, luna, the pack is under attack; eight of the men are inside the safe room; one of you needs to go in to lead just in case something happens and the other needs to stand guard with us," one of my worriers says quickly

"Jessie, safe room now; you are in charge down there; go", I yell at her. She nods, rushing off. I grab a spare change of shorts and follow my worrier downstairs. I sift into my wolf and stand in front of the door Jessie just locked.

"is that us or them" I question one of my fighters through the link when I hear the howl of victory

"us", he replies shortly after looking at the window. I wait until the alphas walk through the door before shifting back and pulling my shorts on

"Jessie, it's safe", I yell out

"Jessie", I yell out again when I hear a grunt as something hits the door; my eyes widen

"is there any other way in?" I question reed, and his eyes nod

"they must have found our tunnels", he yells before alphas and fighters run in all different directions to get inside. I feel pain in my shoulder and know Jessie is hurt. I grab the door and start pulling at it until it breaks off the hinges. I jump into the fight and notice that neither the reeds pack nor the lunas are hurt. I rip off the head of a wolf who was about to attack a kid with my bare hands; I notice the influx of wolves flooding, realising they are all going to die. The rouges submit, allowing us to kill them.

I rush to Jessie's side and notice she is the only one hurt

"why are you the only one hurt" I question her, I can feel the dull pain in my shoulder, but the look in Jessie's eyes shows her wolf and her and trying not to let me handle it.

"They attacked from behind, we were all looking at the door waiting, and she was behind us; one of the wolves went to attack my son, and she noticed and jumped in the way; that is how she got a bit", one of the ladies cries holding her son close to her

"I need a pack doctor", I scream as I notice the pain flowing into me and her eyes hazing over; I feel some wolves run to my side, helping me carry her out of the room and to the other injured; I notice that Vick is one of the wolves helping with the injured

"did you not fight" I question, making his eyes snap to me and m mate

"no, I didn't; I was trained as a pack healer, so I stayed behind; what happened" he questions, rushing to our side as we

"she was in the safe room with my men when they were attacked from behind; she dived to save a young boy", I smile. He nods and starts fixing her up. The whole time, I am on the edge of my seat, wondering if she will survive.
