LVII

Day two with Duncan out of town, and I can't say things were going great. But things were going smoothly. A bit too smoothly, if you ask me. Before, Duncan left, he made sure to, up the security systems, so now hardly three people had access to the storage spaces. One of whom, was currently in Houston. So, that was quite reassuring.

Duncan and I had developed a schedule, where either of us would call up the other one at every sixty minutes interval. With only the exception of when I had to drive to or from office. Which hardly left any time to miss our counter-parts, but the physical absence was glaringly felt. Especially, when you're suddenly the only person living in a bungalow, in a quiet neighborhood, eating and sleeping alone.

Tuesday, the day of the move, was only three days away now. Which also meant that I was either cooped up in my office or was always on the move. Like, take for now, I was now on my way to the admin area to meet the legal team, after which I needed to talk to our curator. So, I was speed-walking out of my office, armed with coffee and documents, clutched to my chest.

Now, I understand it's for security reasons but sometimes, like for now, I really wish we had an elevator which connected the restricted area to the entire museum. At least, then I wouldn't have to make two separate elevator rides and a walk across the museum floor.

"Angie."

Oh great.

I glanced back, to see Nick following me. "Walk and talk, Nick!" I looked back ahead, as we entered the museum floor, before momentarily pausing. "Wait, how did you catch up? You weren't in the elevator with me."

"I ran up the stairs. Anyway," Brushing it off, he dove into the reason why he followed me. "Freya is freaking out and you've to promise not to get mad." Okay, this obviously doesn't sound good.

"You can't just tell me that there might be something I might get mad at and then ask me to promise to not get mad." I fired back.

"Just listen and if possible try to be a little calm about it."

"Okay. Just tell me." At that very moment my phone started buzzing in my pocket. "Actually, hold that thought, and hold my coffee." I pushed my coffee to Nick who managed to hold it in time. "Hello?" I answered my phone.

"Hey, love." Duncan's voice greeted me, and on instinct I checked the time.

"Has it been an hour already?" I asked, breathlessly. I heard him chuckle from the other end. "Seems like you're having fun."

"Oh, I'm having helluva of fun." I grumbled sarcastically.

"Okay, so I can tell you're busy so I'll keep this one short --"

"You don't need to do that." I hurried out.

"It's fine. " I could hear him smile. "My meeting will resume in five minutes, anyway." He sighed. "I had called just to check up, also wanted to let you know that I'll be flying out to Detroit immediately once this meeting gets over. So, I'll call you once more before taking off and then I'll be only able to call you once I land. Which is at most three hours gap."

"Okay. I'll be at the museum for at least four hours more, so it's going to be fine." I said, checking my watch. "Be careful, Eva. Are all the systems working fine?"

"As far as I can tell, yeah." We entered the elevator and pressed the button for the admin floor. "Good. Also, have you noticed anyone suspicious around? I was going through the security tapes and I saw someone - a guy - lurking." I frowned. "Not since two days ago, Duncan. Was the guy blond?"
