Start from the beginning

"I thought I was doing good and that curing Gwen's father would help her. I thought I was saving a life. It seemed so simple." Merlin ranted keeping his eyes away from Gaius.

Gaius sighed shaking his head at the boys antics. "An easy solution is like a light in a storm, Merlin. Rush for it at your peril, for it may not always lead you to a safe harbour."

"I can see that now." Merlin grumbled frustrated that Gaius wouldn't just help cheer up the young man.

"How many times have I warned you about the responsibilities of being a warl" Gaius continued to lecture scowling at the warlock.

Merlin walked past the guards his heart hammering in his chest. He held some food for the fair maiden so no one would question why he was their.

"Gwen." Merlin whispered clinging to her cell bars.

Gwen attempts to reach the door only to be stopped by her chains digging into her wrist. Merlin couldn't help but feel terrible as he stated at her tear strike face. "Thank you."

Thus hit Merlin like a brick he didn't want to be thanked. He was the reason she was in this mess. "What for?" Merlin asked his eyes not fully meeting her eyes.

Gwens face morphed into a small loving smile. "For coming to see me." Merlin grasped the bars harder. Each word was like guilt stabbing him in the back.

Merlin rested his head on the bars staring at her old beaten up shoes. "I'm sorry."

"It's not your fault." Gwen tried to erasure but this only caused Merlin to feel even worse if it were possible.

Before Merlin could keep his thoughts to himself began to speak, "Well..." he was quick to cut his own self off.

Guinevere forced a bright smile that didn't reach her eyes. The eye that were usually filled with kindness and happiness were now filled with fear and sadness. "It's alright. Don't worry about me. There's no point crying about it. I mean...I mean, I'm not saying that you were going to cry about me. Obviously I don't think that." Gwen mumbled the last part her face redeeming slightly as she turned her head away from Merlin embarrassed.

Merlin's eyes finally reached her. "Oh, Gwen. I can't have this happen." Merlin decided. His unsure session coming to a stand still.

Gwen nodded. Merlin turned to leave, however Gwen called out one last request. "Please, one thing. You, you don't have to, but..."

Merlin forced his face to soften. "What?" He asked her hoping she would ask him to get her out. He would do it if she asked.

"Remember me." Gwen asked tears threatening to fall once again.

Determination; can be like a dog mans best friend. "You're not going to die. I'm not going to let this happen." Merlin promised.

Bidding farewell Merlin raced out of the dungeons and if the Wrought Iron Stairway.

Artura listened to his father talk nonstop about the problem. It was getting hold and quiet annoying, a last nobody was brave enough to say anything. Artura was part of the unbrave folk sadly to say.

"What if burning this witch doesn't stop the poison? How do I protect my people? My men have closed down the water pumps." Uther announced running a hand down his old face.

Gaius looked around the room for a voice of reason only to realize he was the voice of reason. "But the emergency supply won't last for much longer. We have to find a way of cleansing the water of the disease."
