DIANA PAVEL NEVER TRULY HAD A HOME. Sure, she had Camp Half-Blood, but that wasn't a real home. There was no loving parent there at night to make sure that nothing from her nightmares would harm her. She didn't have anyone there to protect and love her the way a parent would. Part of her heart wished someone would love her the way others had been loved.

SHE FIRST STEPPED FOOT IN CAMP HALF-BLOOD AT AGE EIGHT. From that moment on, she never left camp again. It was supposed to be a sanctuary for those like her, whose parents couldn't be bothered to claim their own children they so carelessly had with mortals. She would watch as campers came and went, whether that be on quests or to return to their mortal lives if they could do so safely, and she longed to be able to do anything.

IN THE DECADE SHE HAD BEEN AT CAMP, DIANA HAD NEVER BEEN CLAIMED. She had heard the whispers of the younger campers. She's unclaimed, they'd say, and the moment she turned toward them, they'd stop speaking, not daring to say anything in front of her. Everyone knew that it was a sore subject, especially as new campers would get claimed in front of her eyes, and she was left to sit with the unclaimed within Cabin Eleven.
