Marisol's POV- October 2018

Note to self, never start off a conversation with "we need to talk" with your significant other.

"What did I do wrong?"

I shook my head at him and squeezed his bicep.

"You did nothing wrong, I just want to update you on my week," I said.

I stood up on my bed and took a seat in front of Cody (as opposed to next to him).

"And you can't do it during or after breakfast?"

The entire house smelled like pancakes and coffee (it's actually what woke Cody up). He'd notice something was up if he had coffee, and I did not. If he did not notice that, he'd see my hands, specifically my right hand and see it bruised.

"No, Lucy's supposed to come over for a bit" I stated.

She had this really important exam this morning and only visited once while I was in the hospital because she had to study for it. I assured her it was fine, but she insisted she'd be over once the exam was over.

"Is this about us?"'

"No" I answered making his shoulders untensed.

"We can talk about it after then"

I shook my head.

"I just want to update you on my week" I stated.

"Oh, in that case, carry on"

I smiled and reached for his hands. Once I had a hold of his giant hands, I gave them a squeeze.

"Before I start, I want to assure you that I am fine and alive and that your teammate had nothing to do with what happened after I saw you Sunday night," I said.

He nodded.

"I technically do have an infection, it's just a little more serious than I led you to believe," I told him.

I didn't want him to worry.

"And I wasn't in the hospital for only one night" I disclosed.

His eyebrows furrowed.

"I got discharged yesterday afternoon" I added.

He frowned.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"You had other things to worry about," I said.

"It had to be serious if you were there for a couple of days"

"I have pneumonia" I informed him.

He sighed.

"That's serious, Mari"

I smiled.

"They took good care of me," I told him.

He looked down at our hands and hummed as his thumb grazed the bruising on my hand.

"Then explain the bruising on your hand"

"Nurses have a really hard time finding my veins," I said.

His eyes widened when I raised my sleeves to show him my forearms.

"Ouch"

Ouch was correct.

"When are you cleared to go back to your crazy schedule?"

"Next Monday" I answered.

He nodded and looked at me.

"Are you okay with watching the games from home?"

I risked relapsing if I went. It was starting to feel like Fall in Los Angeles, which meant it would get chilly once the night set in.

"Yes," I replied.

"I'll drop by after?"

I smiled and accepted the kiss he was leaning in for.

"You don't mind?" I wondered.

He shook his head.

"As long as you're okay"

He smiled.

"I sleep better next to you, so I'll drop by after the games?"

Dad was starting to warm up to Cody, so he'd allow it.

"I'll talk with my dad" I promised.

"Can we go eat now?"

I laughed and nodded.

"Yes," I responded.

"Give me a quick minute, I need to pee"

He rushed out of the room, and I took my time to climb out of the bed. Bugs made his way into the room as I found my slippers.

"Hi boy" I greeted.

He proceeded to bark at me and run out of the room. I slipped on my slippers and made my way out of the room when I heard the bathroom door open.

"Did you wash your hands?" I called out.

"Yes"

Cody followed me down, and as we were about to dig in the doorbell rang.

"I got it!"

"Thanks, dad" I called out.

Double thanks actually, he had heated up out food.

"Manny made this," I told Cody.

"Did he head out already?"

"Yes," I answered.

Manny was in his last year of Med School, so he was actually a bit hands on with patients.

"Hey, Lucy" I greeted.

She smiled and leaned down for a hug.

"You look so much better"

She gave me a squeeze before letting go of me.

"Do you know anything on Desi?"

I nodded as she gave Cody a hug.

"Yeah, she's at home" I answered.

She took a seat in between Cody and I.

"Do you know how many staples she got?"

"I think 4" I replied.

"Wait, what happened to Desi?"

Cody's eyebrows furrowed as his attention turned to Lucy who replied,

"A dog knocked her down at work, and she hit her head pretty hard"

"And ended up getting stitches on her forehead and the back of her skull staples" I added.

Cody just sighed and shook his head.

"Chris and I are supposed to get hurt, not you two"

Lucy laughed.

"I'm pretty sure none of you are supposed to get hurt"
