11. Truth Revealed

Khushi made her way to Soniya, after talking to Seema.

“Hey Soniya, where’s Arshi?”

“Right here,”and she lifted her arm, nothing in hand.

The two widened their eyes, and without a word, they began to look for her. This wasn’t the first time Arshi slipped away at a party.

“Soniya you look here, I’ll go out and look.”

“Okay.”

They split up and Khushi headed out to the back.

“Arshi!”

She looked around but didn’t see her. She went down the steps.

“ARSHI!”

Both Arnav and Arshi turned to her and looked at her.

Khush ifroze.

Oh no.... Why is he holding Arshi?

Arshi smiled. “Amm!”

Arnav looked at Arshi and Khushi got nervous.

“Amm! Amm!”

“What the,” was all Arnav could say.

Arshi looked at Arnav and smiled. She placed her cheek on his and held him tight.

As cute as it was, and as happy as the moment was, Khushi had to stop it. She went over and tried to get a hold of Arshi, but she wouldn’t budge.

“Arshi,” she warned, “let’s go.”

Arshi shook her head and held Arnav tighter.

“Arshi. Let’s. Go.”

She shook her head once more.

“Arshi!”

Arshi flinched and began to cry.

“Khushi, what the hell,” Arnav said. “Is that a way to talk to a child?”

“She’s my child and I-”

Khushi stopped herself and Arnav looked at her wide-eyed.

“She’s… your child?”

Khushi looked away. “Yes.... So?”

Arnav looked at Arshi. She had calmed down because Arnav was shaking her. She held his face and looked him in the eye.

Khushi hesitated. If he looks at her for too long, then he might figure it out.

She pulled Arshi away from Arnav and Arshi began to cry. She reached out to Arnav and Arnav remained still, looking down at the ground.

Khushi was almost at the steps, when Arnav spoke.

“Don’t. Move.”

Khushi froze and her eyes widened. She turned and looked at Arnav, and Arnav lifted his head and looked at her.

“That’s my daughter you’re taking.”
