CHAPTER 10 : ANSWERS

CORA’S P.O.V

I had been asleep for a long time, I could tell by the stiffness in my body. I groaned and rolled over as my body ached.

“Are you ok?” Cad responded his head shooting up from the side of the bed where he had just been sleeping.

“I’m fine just sore.” I said honestly. I could feel the wounds healing, very slowly, but healing none the less. My body had taken on to much damage there were a lot of repairs to be made and since I was wounded in both my forms it would take twice as long to heal.

“Cad is James still asleep?” I asked feeling the need to cradle my little brother and tell him I was ok.

“Yah apparently mom gave him a lot of sleeping powder.” Cad said with a grin that I returned.

“Could you help me up?” I asked trying to sit up without causing myself too much pain.

“Of course do you need to go to the restroom?” Cad asked being very attentive and I found myself wondering why I had resisted so much. Since accepting him it felt like the world had been lifted off of me. It was an amazing feeling.

“No I would like to go talk to the boy that came here with us, do you think that would be ok?” I asked as he gently wrapped his arms around me.

“Sure” he said.

I yelped in surprise when my feet where no longer on the floor.

“I’m sorry did I hurt you?” Cad asked looking worried as I sat in his arms cradling against him.

“No Just surprised me, but you know I can walk with a little help.” I said smiling into his neck taking a deep breath of his mouth watering smell.

“I know but I prefer to hold you like this. Make up for lost time, you know?” Cad said with amusement and I just hummed in agreement feeling too comfortable in his embrace to say anything.

I could hear his heart thumping, the steady rhythm almost put me to sleep during the short walk from my room to the room down the hall where the boy was.

The sound of a door gently swinging open made me pull my head away from my comforting lullaby of my mate’s steady heartbeat.

“Do you mind if we talk?” Cad asked the boy who was now sitting up in bed looking like death. His face pale from loss of blood, small scratches scattered across his face but the thing I couldn’t help but notice was the stub at his shoulder where he no longer had an arm. Yet somehow this boy managed a smile and ushered us in. Cad gently sat me in a chair next to the boy and I quickly grabbed his left hand.

“Are you doing alright?” I asked feeling stupid as soon as I asked it. Of course he wasn’t he had lost his arm, and found out he lost his sister.

“Actually I am thanks to you. Why would you save me when I was there to kill you?” The boy asked with surprise ignoring Cad’s growl.

I shrugged with a smile of my own. “You are special; I could see it in your eyes. I could tell you wouldn’t have killed me.” I said honestly and could see the boy’s eyes watering.

“You remind me of her.” He said sounding strangled as he tried to stay in control of his emotions.

I squeezed his hand , as Cad spoke. “You must have had an amazing sister then” Cad smiled at me and I just returned it. Focusing my attention back to the boy who nodded in agreement, I couldn’t help but ask.

“Could you tell us what happened, that is if you think you can handle it trust me I can understand if you don’t want to talk about it.” I said in a rush not wanting to force any traumatizing events upon him.
