Hiccup

Looking down at the beautiful face before me I let a tear slide down my cheek. I realised that she wasn't going to be here now to brush my tears away. She wasn't going to be here to tease me jokingly. I wasn't ever going to be able to hold her in my arms, comfort her when times get tough. Kiss her soft lips again. Brush her bangs out of her eyes. Or look into her beautiful sea blue eyes ever again.

She was gone and there wasn't nothing I could do to bring her back.

She lay on a bed of sticks surrounded by forget-me-nots as they were blue, and as the name suggests, she will NEVER be forgotten. Another tear slipped down my cheek landing on her soft lips. I leant over and kissed her.

"Goodbye my Astrid..." I spoke softly slipping what would have been our engagement ring onto her finger. On the outside there was a strike class symbol and a Nadder with the words carved 'mine'. On the inside it read 'forever and always...' I had been waiting for the right moment. But I had waited to long, now it was gone. I cried even more.

My mother walked over placing her hands on my shoulders.

"you need to let go son..." she said. I can't believe what she just said.

"never!" I reply indignantly. She just nods and walks away. Merida then walks up to me comforting me.

"at least you still have me..." she says softly.

"But I don't want you!" I tell her angrily. She seems a bit taken aback as she too walks away slowly.

"it's time..." Gobber tells me patting me on the back. I nod. three of the villagers including me carry her onto a ship placing her softly onto the deck.

"I love you..." I tell her lifeless body, placing a kiss on her head. We walk off the ship as I push it away and out to sea.

Gobber begins to speak,

"May the valkyries welcome you and lead you through Odin's great battlefield. May they sing your name with love and fury, so that we might hear it rise from the depths of Valhalla. I know that you've taken your rightful place at the table of kings. For a great warrior has fallen. She was like a daughter to me... now" he nods to my direction. I see Gobber crying, I've only ever seen him cry at my father's funeral. I didn't know he cared for her this much. I nodded back, picking up the bow and an arrow from the holder(not sure what it's called!). I set the end of the arrow on fire before, shakingly, place the arrow in the arrow rest. I pull the string back up to my cheek and let a tear fall before releasing it. I look up to see part of the boat already burning.

Soon after the gang step up each shooting arrows at the ship which is sailing away. The ship is now raging in flames as it sails off into the distance.

"goodbye m'lady" I say before walking home.
