''Get out of the car already. I don't have all day you know''. Chris shot me a look.
We finally got home after the long silent ride here. My parents completely abandoned me. I have no friends, no family, god knows where nana. And now I refuse to get out of the car.
''You can't make me get out.'' I cried. ''Do you expect me to live with a complete stranger? I have no clue who you are, where you're from, why you're here and why my parents picked you...I just want to wake up from this horrible nightmare and I want my life to be normal again..'' I ran out of breath.
I looked at Chris from my teary eyes and thought, maybe he would pick up his suitcase that's sitting next to the staires and start walking away, maybe call a taxi or something. Maybe if I annoy him enough he'll get sick of me and leave me alone.
''Stop being a cry baby and get out of the car.'' He hissed, obviously getting mad.
''You can't make me.''
''Fine then, you can stay in the car while I fix myself something to eat, in your kitchen.'' He added, clearly because he thinks it's funny to annoy me even more.
I smiled. ''Go ahead. See if I care if you fix yourself something to eat in my kitchen.''
I had a plan.
He looked unsure from the response that he got from me....He turned his back to me, picked up his suitcase, grabbed the keys from his pocket and unclocked the door and went in.
I had no clue how he got the keys to the place but then I thought my mother obviously gave them to him. I looked around and stared at the kitchen window, made sure he wasn't around looking, opened the passenger door and started booking it down my road. I had no idea where I was going with no money, no food and with his light tanktop and shorts. Not enough to warm me up at night.
I just ran and ran.
Adrenaline taking over. I never ran like this in my life. FREEDOM. I yelled to myself.
I ran for good 30 minutes, until I was sure no one's following me. What if Chris realized I was gone? I didn't want him looking for me. But the coast seemed clear. I got to the icecream place that my dad used to take me too when I was younger. I was surprised I got here so fast, it usually took 20 minutes to drive here. I guess me being fit helps sometimes!
I slowed my pace down and thought maybe they're hiring. I could work a shift, maybe they need some extra help tonight and with that money, I can catch the next bus crossing the state tomorrow.
Easy right?
I walked in to the icecream place with a smile on my face. A plan! This is perfect!
There was a big lineup, about 15 people and only 2 people working.
Sweet, they deffinitely need the extra help.
I saw someone dusting the windows, a young girl with a pink apron around her waiste. She saw me looking at her and she smiled. ''Welcome to The Icecream Palace!''
''Uhhh thanks.'' I mumbled. ''I was looking to speak to a manager, it's very urgent.''
''Ofcourse! Give me one second.''
I sat on the nearest table, sitting across from the door. Just incase Chris's car drives by or something, I'll be prepared. I waited for about 5 minutes, getting impatient.
amhmm
Someone cleared their throat behind me.
I turned around and looked at the person. It was.........Meagan!
''Meagan,I didn't know you worked here!!'' I yelleld happily and gave her a hug. She smiled at me, ready to say something, but I cut her off. ''Where's your manager? I'm here for job and it's very urgent!!''
She laughs and looks at me worridly. ''What are you doing here? Aren't you still feeling badly? You just blacked out at the tryouts yesterday and eveyone was so worried about you.'' She added with a frown.
''That was yesterday?...That's not so long at all....'' I trailed off. ''But yeah'' I regained my thoughts. ''I'm feeling much better today.''
''Good! I'm glad!'' She added with a smile. ''So about that job, ofcourse you can work here, we need more icecream scoopers for sure, when can you start?'' She asked with her head tilted to one side.
I looked at her in confusion. ''You're the manager? Aren't you a little too young'' I added skeptically.
''Haha yes, I am but my parents own this place, they just bought it few weeks ago when we moved here. On slow days like these they put in charge, they're usually never here anyway. We're renovating couple of houses on westridge so they're busy, they only come in the end of the night to collect the money or pay the employees or make the scheduale for them. The rest's on me.''
I was taken back by her answer, wow her parents have alot on her plate. ''Wow that's awesome! So you're going to be my new boss ahah.'' I nervously laughed. ''And to answer your previous question, I would like to start tonight, if that's okay with you.''
I asked with a hope and a prayer that she would say yes. I don't see why not. She did say it was a slow day today, I don't really see that but maybe she would say yes out of the goodness of her heart.
''Ofcouse you can start today! I can train you actually.'' She added.
YES YES YES. '' Oh my god really? Thank you so so much. You won't regret it. But don't you have to call your parents and ask them first?'' I asked hesitanltly, what if they say no?
''No, don't worry about it. they'll be okay with it.''
''Sweet!'' I added with a smile.
''Well I am supposed to have an interview with you and ask you all these weird questions..'' She trailed, my smile fell. ''But I won't, ahha got you!''
''You almost got me there.'' I laughed along.
''So let's get you started, since I know you and everything I'll give you an option.'' she said while looking at me and gesturing to follow her outback, I nodded and tagged along. ''Do you want to be the scooper or do you want to be the waffle maker and the icecream maker in the back room?'' She asked while she pushed open a door that says -Staff Only-
This can't get be anymore perfect! Inside this door there was so many equipments and fancy freezers and fridges. and atleast 12 waffle maker machines.
I realized that if I stayed behind here, Chris will never find me!
''Deffinitely an icecream maker'' I added wih entusiasm.
''Alright, well here's your apron.'' She grabbed an peron from a coact hanger behind the door. ''Let's get going.''
