Monika had been out late to work with the axis powers that day. Although she would usually invite (Y/N), this meeting was strictly confidential to the three countries. After Sakura had left, Monika and Feliciana had decided to go for a drink at the local bar. Some time passed, and before Monika knew it, she had told Feliciana that both her and (Y/N) had broken up, leading to them going into the home that (Y/N) and Monika shared together.

Poor (Y/N) had gone shopping and arrived home with a cake. She had set the table earlier, so she opened the cake and placed it on the table. She was never very good at cooking, however, since Monika hadn't been home recently, (Y/N) would order food or spend some time learning new recipes. She didn't have enough time to bake a cake, resorting to buying it. She stepped back, scanning over the table to make sure everything was in place, before she heard creaking from upstairs. She looked up, confused as to what could be making the sound, and went upstairs to check.

As she walked up the stairs, her pace slowed, hearing what sounded like moaning and the bed moving. (Y/N) knew what the sound was, as she had gone through a relationship that had ended because of that very same noise. She had trust issues because of that particular relationship, effecting her responses to Monika's hints to make love. If the sound was what (Y/N) thought is was, she would understand a bit more than if they had been fine when it came to their sexual relationship; but they weren't fine in their relationship as a whole. They didn't see each other that much and they didn't do things together that made it evident that they were a couple. At this point, it was like they were friends with benefits. So, when (Y/N) had opened the door and saw Monika kissing Feliciana, she didn't cry. She didn't scream and she didn't slap them both. When she opened the door, Monika and Feliciana both turned their heads to meet (Y/N) and her look of disappointment and regret. (Y/N) bit her lip and looked down, trying to think of what to say, before looking back up at Monika, who had by then gotten off of Feliciana and was making her way over cautiously.

"Monika" (Y/N) looked at her,  before clearing her throat and continuing with a soft voice. "I understand why you did what you did. And I understand that I'm not there sometimes. I understand that we haven't been going out often. I understand this. What I don't understand is why you didn't break up with me instead of torturing me the way you are now. Why didn't you just leave me and go with her if you knew that this relationship isn't working out. Why did you have to do it today, on our anniversary. I can take a lot of things. I can be patient and hold in the pain I feel when I realize you won't be home until late or when I realize that you've forgotten our date for the fourth time or when you come home, without ever saying Hello, and go off to bed. I hurt because I can't see you, but I don't let you know because I don't want to be a burden. I don't want to hurt you. And I'm trying to be calm. I'm trying my best not to slam this door and run down the street, screaming. I'm trying to be okay with this and I'm trying to be lenient. But it's really damn hard to be in a relationship where your significant other only acts like a roommate rather than a lover. So please, if you don't mind, I would like for both of you to move your business into another room because I need to pack my things. Thank you." She stepped beside the doorway, gesturing to the door, waiting for the both of them to exit.

Monika could remember that moment so vividly. That was the last time (Y/N) looked at her directly in the eyes. That look of disappointment and regret was the last look she was given. And no matter what Monika had tried to do, (Y/N) wouldn't look up at her. She refused to speak to her after that, merely shaking her head and having Feliciana take the blonde out of the room.

Every single morning, Monika would run for 2 hours, reliving that memory. She would remember that look in (Y/N)'s eye and as time went on, she realized that regret and disappointment weren't the only two looks. There was a hint of guilt in her eyes. (Y/N) had been blaming herself for the entire ordeal. And Monika couldn't even let her know that it wasn't her fault as she had blocked her number and had not let her know where she had been staying. Monika distanced herself from the rest of the axis since that event, occasionally going to Sakura to vent a bit.
