Chapter 29: Dates?

Start from the beginning

"Companion?" She said with wide eyes at me.

"Date, date, date, will you be my date?" I said finally getting it out right.

"You mean partner?" She questioned with a cheery laugh. I gave her a flat look, crossing my arms. "No wait come on, I was just kidding." She put her finger on the flower. "And I'd love to be your date." She said looking down, her cheeks turning red.

"Well I love you." I said using my hand to pick her head back up. She smiled at me.

"I love you too."

We walked to her house, hands together. I dropped her off and walked back to my house, getting ready to go to the gym with the guys.

Afterwards at the gym, Jesse wanted to double the workout since the party was taking place on a work-out day. I, on the other hand, tried to convince him otherwise. I even promised to attempt dancing. He rolled his eyes at me and said that I better stick through.

"Jess, did you get a date for the party?" Kevin asked while Jesse kept doing his push-ups.

"Yeah Kristy asked me." He said lifting himself up while I was still working on mine.

"When?" Kevin asked looking surprised.

"Yesterday, after school." Kevin kicked Jesse's leg. Jesse dodged it and laughed.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"Eh." Jesse said shrugging.

"Cheerleader Kristy? Girl with the signature red leather jacket, right?" Kevin questioned.

"Oh yeah." Jesse sent him a grin. "Jealous?" He said raising an eyebrow at Kevin. Kevin shook his head, laughing to himself.

"Yeah I thought we were dates." He held his heart. Sarcastically he said, "the heartbreak, the heartbreak."

"There better be heartbreak." Jesse said jokingly. We all chuckled.

"Any plans for the night?" Kevin asked me as he pulled up in my street.

"Dinner with my mom." I shrugged. They laughed. Eh..I was serious..

"You asked Blaine to be your date for tomorrow's party, right?" Jesse asked. I nodded. "Okay good."

"Hey Kev, that's Charlie's house right there." I said pointing at the house three doors down from mine. He looked and nodded.

"The red one?" He asked, parking in front of my house.

"Yeah." I nodded.

"That's good to know. I should drop by later and bless her with my presence." He said joking.

"I think that girl would be more happy at your absence." Jesse teased. Kevin rolled his eyes, not saying anything more.

"I think Kev just can't wait to see her again." I said joining in. Kevin groaned.

"I was just kidding guys. Geez." Kevin said as Jesse and I laughed. I grabbed my gym bag and opened my door.

"I'm gonna go now. I better not wake up to awful singing while you try to win her over Kev."

"Ha ha." He said sarcastically. I grinned at them two before saying my goodbye.

"Alright see you man."

I waved at Kev and Jesse one last time before I unlocked the door and went inside. I threw my gym bag on the floor.

"Alan is that you?" I heard my mom call.

"Yeah mom it's me." I said, taking off my shoes.

"Honey, can you drop off some paperwork for me at the Scotts' house? You could take some cookies too for your friend Charlie."

"Sure mom, let me just go shower real quick. I just came back from the gym." I said as I went upstairs with my gym bag in hand. I heard her shout 'okay' while I showered real quick and got into cleaner clothes. I looked in the mirror afterwards putting my glasses lopsided like Blaine puts them and chuckled. I shook my head and put them on correctly, going downstairs to my mom. I gave her a kiss when I saw her and was handed the cookies and paperwork.

"You can stay there for a while, but not for too long. Dinner is almost ready." She said. I nodded and put the stuff down while I put on my shoes. I grabbed them when I was done.

"Alright mom, see ya in a few!" I shouted before I left to Charlie's house. I wonder if I should warn her about Kevin. I thought with a smile. I knocked on the door for a few seconds before Mrs. Scotts opened the door. She gave me a smile when she noticed me.

"Alan, what a surprise! How are you?" She said. I gave her a smile of my own, hoping she didn't pinch my cheeks.

"I'm good, how are you?" I asked politely.

"I'm fine! Your voice got deeper didn't it?" She said sounding surprised. I nodded. "You're turning into a fine young man!" I chuckled. "Are you here for Charlie?" She asked before she started to call Charlie. "Charlie, honey. You have a visitor!"

Not even minding that I barely got a word in, I gave her the paperwork and cookies. She told me she was going to check on dinner while we heard Charlie's footsteps coming down.

"If it's Lily, tell her I don't want to see her!" I heard Charlie yell from the staircase. "What? Did Ms. Popular send you over here to- Oh, it's you." She said when she caught sight of me. She dropped her glare and looked upset. "Hey."

"For someone who was just bad-mouthing her best friend, you look upset that it wasn't her here." I said, frowning.

"Mom, me and Alan are gonna talk on the front porch!" She said aloud to her mom before she closed the door and sat on the porch steps.

"What's been going on?" I asked her. She turned her attention to the view in front of us.

"She's just being so selfish!" She said, her glare coming back. "It's just- there's this guy that she really liked and it didn't work out for her. Now she's been hanging out with Ms. Popular and ignoring me! Even when Kevin invited me to the table, she still acted like I wasn't there!" She said sounding really upset. I thought back to how Lily kept looking at Charlie.

"Maybe she's just dealing with things differently this time." I said thoughtfully. "Come on, that doesn't mean she isn't your best friend anymore." I saw Charlie shake her head.

"I just don't want her to do anything stupid." I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. I got a text from Kevin.

"Sorry," I excused myself. "Kevin just texted me." He was asking what song do I suggest for him to sing for Charlie. I texted him back a warning instead.

"Kevin?" She asked, looking at me curiously. I gave her an amused look.

"Yeah, you know your date for the party tomorrow?" She blushed, looking away. "You're mean to him."

"I am?" She questioned.

"No it's okay, stay like that." I advised with chuckle.

"I will." She promised with a laugh. "He's cute."

"No no, I don't need details." I insisted. She laughed for a while more before sighing.

"I miss Lily." She told me.

"I'm sure she misses you too." I said honestly. "Just give her some time. You can always call Blaine if you need girl time, I know she doesn't mind."

"Yeah I know, thanks Alan." She said giving me a smile. Another vibrate. I saw I got a text from Jesse. I looked at Charlie, giving her an amused smile.

"It's Jesse." I said as I checked the message.

Jesse: Did I mention I have a date w. A girl w. A leather jacket? ;D

I rolled my eyes and turned to Charlie.

"Trust me, no matter how crazy your friends are, you just wouldn't have it any other way."
