For the first interview we got in self-described "average high schooler" Antje Fincher. After fumbling her name a couple of times she demanded we stick with AJ, soon learning that she's got a bit of a mouth. She's fiesty, she's loud, she's dealing with a major friendship break-up. She also made some wild claims about magic and ghosts and the like but we think you should take everything she says with a pinch of salt. She may or may not be crazy. After making her answers a little more PG, we have her interview to show!
What’s your real, given name?
Antje Fincher.
What do you like to be called and why?
AJ because people always mess up my freaking name. How hard is it to say Antje anyway?
How old are you?
17 years old.
How old do you act?
It depends. Sometimes I’m this whiny kid and sometimes I’m an old man sitting on the porch yelling at kids to get off my lawn. Right now I think I’m about 35 give or take a few years.
Birthday and Zodiac Sign
31st October 1994. Now...why would you want to know that? I’m a Scorpio...I think. I know that I’m the year of the Dog—does that help?
Does your Zodiac Sign describe you very well?
Well, I just used my trusty friend Google and apparently I’m loyal, passionate, resourceful and observant. That’s definitely me! Jealous, suspicious and obsessive? Yeah, that kind of sounds like me.
Describe your personality in five words
Wonderful, funny, sexy, enticing and amazing. What’s that? Be serious. Fine, fine. Sarcastic, caring, outgoing, loud and...mathematic, I guess? Jeez this is kind of hard.
What is your ultimate goal at the moment?
To get Jill, my bestfriend, away from all these loser boys. Seriously, what is with her and attracting weirdos? First she had Gray, the biggest loser on the planet of losers, and now she’s going out with some guy that thinks he’s Harry Potter? See what I have to put up with?
What’s stopping you from getting it?
Well Jill’s pretty attached to Choir Boy and now she’s kind of avoiding me because she’s seen my plan of attack. Plus, Oliver Potter knows what I’m up to and he’s pretty determined when he tears himself away from him séances or rituals or whatever the hell he’s up to.
Are you single or taken or something else? What’s your orientation?
Definitely Single. I think I’m going to marry myself because I’m done with all these boy problems. But now my ex is following me like a lost puppy and he’s sending me all these DVDS and...maybe I’ll become a nun. Oh and I’m straight although it’d be a whole lot easier if I was into girls, let me tell you that.
Are you in love with anyone at the moment? (not necessarily the person just mentioned)
I don’t know. Don’t ask me upsetting questions like that! Even if I was I’m working on getting over him, okay?
How do you fall in love: instantly, over time or some other way?
Overtime. Instant love is for vampires and people with no personality.
Describe your ideal guy/girl.
Taller than me, short hair (ugh that long hair stuff grosses me out), takes baths often, understands the term ‘personal space’, understands the concept of going to High School daily, preferably older. Preferably single. Oh and they have to be determined and going somewhere in life. No, living in your mum’s basement whilst you get through a rough patch and work out what you want to do is not determination. Especially not at 20.
Who is your closest friend? What are they like?
Jill Scotts, a brilliantly awesome girl who might be a bit shy and a bit quiet but is one of the coolest girls I know. She’s hilarious too, in a dry sort of way. Just trust me, yeah? You’ve got to get to know her.
Who is your worst enemy? Why?
Oh man, I have a lot of enemies. Jeez this is a hard question. I think, right now, it’s got to be Oliver Martins because he’s stealing Jill away from me but sometimes it’s left wing media, sometimes it’s the teachers at my school, sometimes it’s the kid who stole my pencil case in third grade, sometimes it’s my brother. Ask me again tomorrow.
Are you a mommy or daddy’s boy/girl? Why?
Oh a Daddy’s girl for sure. I love my mum but she’s a little too aggressive when it comes to my love life. It’s okay, my brother Andy would marry my mum if it weren’t illegal and weird.
What was/is your childhood like?
Pretty good. Pretty normal, maybe I grew up a bit too fast but pretty normal all the same.
What do you look like (in short)?
Ambiguous. I have ambiguous ethnicity—am I Asian, am I Australian, am I native American? Who knows?
What is your best feature? (Physical)
My eyes. Sorry, that’s cliché and not true. Probably my hair—it’s nice and thick and I like the cut.
What is your worst feature? (Physical)
My eyes. Ha!
If you could change one thing about yourself, personality or physical, what would it be?
I’d probably want to be less aggressive, be able to get on with people more. I want to keep my snarky ways though so I guess that’s not going to happen.
What is your strongest sense? (Hearing, seeing, tasting etc). How do you use this to your advantage?
Hearing. I can hear like a bat—it creeps people out.
What are you the best at?
Math and science, to be honest. Oh and quoting movies. I’ve only ever met one person who can match me at movie quoting.
What are you usually noticed for?
Doing the wrong thing at the wrong time.
What do you usually get in trouble for (if at all)?
Oh man, where do I even start? Talking in class, talking back to teachers, swearing, swearing at teachers, writing on desks, writing on people’s stuff, writing on people, showing up late, showing up out of it, not showing up, showing up and talking loudly, refusing to do things, asking stupid questions, eating in class, chewing gum in class, drinking “not water” in class, being a smart ass, being smart, being an ass, skipping detentions, sleeping in detentions, sleeping whilst skipping detentions...I could continue.
Describe where you’re living right now.
An old house ten minutes away from school, twenty minutes away from the Melbourne CBD.
Describe your life right now.
Frustrating and cluttered.
If you could be any animal what would you be?
I’d still be a human—what would I be without my ability to talk?
