The first lesson of Defense Against the Dark Arts was just about to begin and the students sat in the gloomy classroom waiting for their teacher, Professor Snape.

Naturally Harry, Robyn, Hermione and Ron were sat together but the group couldn't help but notice Malfoy who was standing in the corner of the classroom by himself. He wasn't even with Crabbe and Goyle.

"If Malfoy's not going out for Quidditch this year, good riddance, I say." Hermione said.

Ron shrugged. "Yeah, but it's not like him, is it?"

Snape entered the classroom. "Quiet."

"Remind me why I let you talk me into this?" Ron whispered to Harry.

"I thought you talked me into this." Harry whispered wryly back.

Robyn rolled her eyes. "Oh hush, the pair of you. You shouldn't feel the need to not do what you love because of one idiot teacher that in a couple of years you'll never have to see again."

Snape eyed Robyn. "I wish to have your full attention." He flicked his wand and a tiny spark hit Robyn's arm.

Robyn winced and repeated under her breath; "One idiot teacher."

"You have had five different teachers in this subject. The Dark Arts are many, varied, ever-changing, and eternal. Fighting them is like fighting a many-headed monster, which, each time a head is severed, sprouts a head even fiercer and cleverer than before. You are fighting that which is unfixed. Mutating. Indestructable."

The class was silent as Snape said this. Even if Snape was a horrible person, they couldn't help but be in slight awe. He knew what he was talking about and that was why Harry looked so resentful as Snape was going to prove to be an actual useful teacher, unlike some of the other Professors they had had in the past.

"You are, I believe, complete novices in the use of non-verbal spells. We shall begin to remedy that. Those who progress in magic without shouting incantations gain an element of surprise in their spell-casting. Not all wizards can do this; it is a question of concentration and mind-power which some--" Snape looked pointedly at Harry. "--lack."

Harry glared at him.

Later in class, the students were put into pairs and had to try to duel eachother non-verbally.

Hermione and Robyn were together and Ron and Harry were a pair. They weren't doing so well.

Robyn would be able to cast the spells wordlessly but they would all be weak and unsuccessful. Although it was important, Robyn wasn't very bothered by this because she had no issue with just saying the incarnations when casting spells.

Snape walked by Ron and Harry, who weren't doing very good and Robyn knew he would say something.

Professor Snape stopped and watched the pair of them. It didn't take a second before he insulted Ron, who was failing to do the objective of the lesson but so was most of the rest of the class. "Pathetic, Weasley. Here, let me show you--"

He raised his wand at Harry, who reacted instinctively, poising his own wand. "Protego!"

Snape was knocked off-balance and fell into a desk. The man scowled at Harry, and steadied himself. Any laughs were quickly muffled.

"Do you remember me telling you we are practicing non-verbal skills, Potter?" Snape jeered, his yellow teeth showing.

"Yes." Harry replied simply.

"'Yes, sir.'"

Harry didn't know what brought him to say what he did and instantly knew it would land him in trouble. "There's no need to call me 'sir,' Professor."

Snorts and giggles echoed around the classroom and even Robyn had to hide her smirk.

"Detention, Saturday night, my office. I do not take cheek from anyone, Potter...not even 'the chosen one.'" Snape spat and turned away from Harry, his black cloak billowing behind him as he went.

Harry, Ron, Hermione and Robyn filed out of the classroom with the other students.

"That was brilliant, Harry." Ron grinned.

Hermione didn't argue the matter. "You shouldn't have done it, though. What made you?"

Harry looked at Hermione as if he was really seeing her for the first time. "He tried to jinx me, in case you didn't notice! I had enough of that during those Occlumency lessons. What's Dumbledore playing at, anyway, letting him teach Defense? Did you hear him talking about the Dark Arts? Like he's in love with them! 'Ever-changing and eternal.' 'Unfixed and indestructable.'"

"I thought he sounded a bit like you, actually." Hermione said, nonchalantly.

Harry did a double take. "What?"

Hermione quickly came to her own defence. "The way you taught us last year. How fighting the Dark Arts comes down to being brave and quick-thinking. That's a lot of what he was saying, I thought."

Harry looked at Robyn for help.

Robyn shrugged apologetically. "I mean-"

"Robyn!"

"You both have a passion for the subject, what's so bad about that!" Robyn said.

"Unbelievable." Harry muttered as a note poofed into existence in front of him. Harry unrolled it.

"It's from Dumbledore. He wants me to come see him in his office Saturday night."

Harry rolled the parchment back up while the other three looked curious.

Harry smiled in triumphant. "Ha. So much for Snape's detention."

(Sassy Harry is the best Harry. I know it's a bit short but I'm working on the next chapter now so hopefully you should have it tonight or tomorrow. I've just broke up for a week so I can put my college work aside for a bit.

Also can we talk about 13 reasons why season two for a sec. That shit went from 100 to 1000 real quick in the last episode. It was good though, I hope there's a season three they can't just leave it like they did. I am fucking obsessed with Clay though. Sorry not sorry. Anyway, until next time.)
