Promise Broken

The feeling of not having your other half, the other person that completes you is something that I always feared of. Call me very paranoid, clingy or whatever, I always wanted Alucard to be on my side. He and I both made a promise to each other after all that it me and him will always be together no matter what.

Not even death do as part.

Suddenly, the door of the room opened, revealing Rafaela, one of the head nurse of the hospital and a friend of Alu. She seemed rather down as she entered, a long face that held once sweetest smiles that she can give. I raised my eyebrow at that but made no comment about it as I assumed that she had a tiring day in the hospital.

"Tired, Raf?" I asked her, making her snap out from her stupor as she shook her head to have a small smile on her face.

"Yeah... you can say that." She walked near me as she checked all the instruments that were around me. "Guess it kinda drains me to constantly move around the place all the time you now?"

I nodded at her statement as she checked my dextrose and all. Rafaela turned to me as she had grabbed the checklist on the desk.

"Are you feeling any good?"

I shook my head as I gestured towards my chest. "It keeps hurting now..." I answered honestly, making her frown as she went near me and checked my bandages on my chest.

"It doesn't seem like it's bleeding..." She muttered as she placed some pressure on my chest, making me wince slightly in pain. Rafaela sighed as she left her hands on my chest and wrote down something on the checklist.

"Guess you need some more pain killers than I thought." She looked at me with worry. "You aren't feeling anything else that hurts?"

I sighed. "Well, my heart hurts for being empty all the time because I don't know where the hell is my lover." I stated bluntly, making her flinch slightly at my tone. I never wanted to be this way but the fact that I did not have any news on what has happened to Alucard, it makes me act cold and unwilling to the hospital staff.

Rafaela recovered as she gave me a small smile. "Don't worry, he is fine." She responded yet I saw her lip twitched. I frowned as I knew that Rafaela wasn't the type to lie at all.

"Rafaela... tell me the truth..." Rafaela looked visibly affected by my plea as she turned her back on me.

"I....I have to go." She said as she swiftly try to leave the room but I called her out.

"Raf! Please..." I begged as I had enough of waiting for an answer for so long. "I need an answer Raf.... I want to know if he is okay..."

She stopped. "...are you sure that you want to know?"

"Yes Rafaela... it has been killing me to know what happened...."

Rafaela seemed to pale when she heard that as I heard that she was sniffing. She turned around as I saw some tears on her eyes that made my eyes widened.

Don't tell me...

"Ruby... remember that you had lost a lot of blood on the accident?" Rafaela asked me slowly in a delicate manner as she wiped the tears off her eyes. My chest felt more in pain as I couldn't believe what was she about to say.

"Don't tell me that he..." Tears went out of my eyes as I felt my breath being shortened and ragged as I felt like a thousand pounds had laid on me in quick succession. Rafaela went near me as I started to cry my eyes out.

"He did." She confirmed, making me feel all the hope that I had tried to find within me suddenly vanished. "He did it to save you..."

"...I don't deserve it!" I shouted at her as I felt my chest even tighter but I didn't care.

"He should have... he should have told me! He promised me Rafaela! He GAVE ME A DAMN PROMISE THAT HE WILL BE ALWAYS BY MY SIDE!"

I saw her wince as tears kept flooding from my eyes as I kept on going. I remembered his face, his smile and his words that gave me comfort now gave me agony as I knew that I had lost him.

Beep! Beep! Beep!

The machine beside me went haywire as I was crying intensely but I didn't care. My breath was forced as I kept on and on.

"Ruby calm down!" She exclaimed sadly as she grabbed my shoulders. "It isn't good for your health!"

"I DON'T GIVE A DAMN RAFAELA!" I cried out as I felt my chest tighten even more, making my breaths even more ragged. "HE IS GONE!"

"I know Ruby but he did it for you!" She responded as the heart monitor keeps beeping like mad. "Don't make his sacrifice in vain!"

When I heard that, I stopped as I felt like I can't take it anymore. I slumped down on my bed as I felt all the energy that I had exhibited left me. My chest was agonizingly painful as it took so much effort to keep on breathing.

"He...did...it for my...worthless self..." I gasped as I felt so tired, the feeling of my heart shattered as I felt like useless... "I just...wanna die...now..."

Rafaela's hands rub my back as she tried to help me breath in and out but it wasn't working out as if my body accepted the words that I said earlier. The heart monitor started to beat slower and slower.

"Ruby! Don't die!" She yelled desparately as she tried to keep my breathing fine but it was getting tougher and tougher...

"I am...just....done with anything.... I just wanna meet him...." I turned to look into the cieling as I gave a small yet weak smile. "I just...wanna see him.... his arms around me.... and this is the way to go..."

Beep.... beep.... beep...

"I just......wanna keep my own side of my promise....."
Beep....beeep....beeep....

"...to be by his side always... and not...even...death will take....me apart... from him......"

Beep...beeep.....beeeeeeeeeeep!

My eyes closed down as the last thing I heard was the machine going off and Rafaela screaming at me.

And this has been requested by VinceAndreiRobin or something along those lines for an Aluby oneshot that involved this kind of storyline. I kinda suck at making drama stuff so I am sorry for my horrible plotting and pacing at this. xD

Anyways, I shall fufil another request soon which is the Martis vs Gatot fight so ya'll be ready for that one! It will be hype as I had always loved writing fight scenes. :)
