Chapter 3

A tall menacing figure comes into the room. Hair the same jet-black like Darrius’. He is flanked by two body guards, one a woman and one a man. Darrius comes in, enjoying the show I assumed.

“Jennifer,” The King says my name, he towers over the rest of the vampires, “Finally we meet,” his voice drawls like a true vampire and I stare cautiously at the out stretched hand in my direction.

“Am I going to die?” I blurt out.

“We don’t know…” the King says. He drops his hand, looking angry I refused to shake it, “It depends.”

“What depends?” I ask, crossing my arms over my chest, “I don’t know why I’m here. I don’t know what I’ve done but you have captured the wrong girl. Please, I want to live,” I’m happy I speak loud and clear. But if I consider vampire’s enhanced senses, he probably still knew I was freaking out.

“You want to live but… it depends on what your parents do when they find you gone,” he smiles with no warmth and I swallow, my breath stopping.

“Excuse me?” I ask.

“So polite…” Darrius says in amusement, laughing at me with his eyes.

“Oh, shut up!” I snap at Darrius, before looking back to the King, “What about my parents?”

“You obviously don’t know,” The King says, ignoring my outburst at Darrius, “Your parent’s are vampire hunters.” I gape, disbelieving. Although that would explain a lot…

“My sister is dead because of them,” The woman vampire by the Kings side snarls at me, “They’ve invented a poison that kills vampires quickly and efficiently. They have to be stopped. They will be stopped. And you will, most likely, die when we are done with you,” venom drips from every word she says. I shake my head. I shake it because I don’t want to die, because I don’t believe my parents are vampire hunter’s, because this whole situation was so messed up…!

“I have no idea what you are talking about,” I say.

“So your parent’s have told you nothing about their work?” The King asks me. I shake my head, frowning.

“Everyone knows that vampires exist, that you are hardly ever in public. That you hide in the shadows when you stalk people you want to feed on. I’ve heard my parents explain that to me, the news says it, teachers say it… That’s all I know. And my parents are fitness trainers, not vampire hunters,” I watch as the four vampires in front of me share bemused looks.

“You know nothing,” The woman hisses suddenly at me, and I don’t reply, not wanting to provoke her into killing me right here and now.

“You will stay here,” the King says, “All the guest rooms are taken at the moment. You are our hostage. With you, your parents should do whatever we say. Then we might let you go,” the King smiles and gestures to his body-guards.

“Let us go and prepare our negotiations…” the three of them leave, Darrius stays.

“Why do you wear such ridiculous clothes?” I ask. Leather pants was not an outfit. And it was not trendy. At all. Although he did look damn hot in them…

“You know,” he says, smiling wickedly, “You can come stay in my room,” I shake my head, cheeks flaming red.

“Please, just leave me alone. I have enough things on my mind,” I mean it, and I watch him lean up from the bookcase and give me a calculating stare.

“I won’t let them kill you, it’d be a waste,” he says, “I could have so much fun with you…” he says this while smirking and walking to the door. Before he closes it he gives me one last look, “Don’t try to escape. If a vampire besides me catches you wondering, you’ll be dead meat,” he closes the door and I glare at it. Damn him!

The chances were I wouldn’t be able to escape.

But I sure as hell would try.

I hear a lock click into place on the other side of the door. I frown.

Damn.
