Jennifer's POV

I wake up in a sweat and find three people looking over me worriedly.

"Jennifer, are you okay?" Jaime asks me, leaning over me with a frown, "You were tossing and turning, must have had a nightmare."

"It was Eddrick again," I mumble, pushing myself up into a sitting position. Jaime, Rafael and Maximus are by my side and I frown at Maximus. I thought he had gone to find Isobel but he was back already, "How long was I asleep?"

"Only an hour," Maximus says, "I came to check that no angry vampires were trying to get into your room. Jaime and Rafael wanted to come see you as well."

"Are you sure you dreamt about Eddrick?" Jaime asks me, "I haven't felt his presence at all."

"He wasn't speaking to me, but I felt him in my dream and I think he conveyed to me that he is planning to kill me - and very soon."

"Aww, sweetie, you know there is no way I'll let that happen," Maximus reaches over and brushes some hair behind my ear off my cheek and sits down right next to me, pushing me over so he sits just beside me, reclining on the headboard.

"Thanks guys," I smile. I felt very protected and loved - and safe, "But, ah, where's Darrius? Is he still talking to the King?"

"He is figuring out a way to save your sweet ass," Maximus says soothingly but giving me a wicked smile - hinting at the fact that Darrius had sex with me and he knew it. I try not to blush and just focus on Jaime and Rafael.

"What are you guys going to do now?" I wonder.

"I want to return back to our home," Rafael says, frowning, "But after what just happened we are forbidden to leave here. But staying here is dangerous because Eddrick knows where Jaime is."

Jaime rolls her eyes and crosses her arms over her chest.

"You worry way too much about me," she mutters and Rafael scowls, angry. I could tell he was strung up tight - tense after everything that had happened. Now his human slave was apparently a Queen of Darkness - her blood able to make vampires lose complete control on their bloodlust.

"You'll listen to what I say," he growls back at her and she just ignores him.

My stomach grumbles loudly and I groan. I was starving.

"I'll go get you some food, Jennifer," Jaime says sweetly and I nod.

"Thanks," I smile back at my twin and try not to laugh when she turns to walk out without consulting Rafael and he quickly follows her, still scowling.

Once they are gone I narrow my eyes at Maximus and turn to face him.

"So where is Isobel?" I ask, "I thought you went to go find her."

"I found her," Maximus shrugs, "I'm just teaching her a lesson at the moment."

I just glare at him but he doesn't spill the beans.

"Bloody vampires," I growl.

"Don't look at me like that," Maximus growls back, slipping an arm around my waist and tickling my side. I wiggle out of his grasp and scramble to the other side of the bed.

"You're distracting me," I say, holding a pillow to my chest as protection, "Where exactly is Darrius?"

Maximus smirks at me.

"You know me too well," he says, "He is, well... he is doing some research."

"Explain," I say, convinced he is hiding something from me.

"I can't tell you or you'll get too upset."

"Tell me, I'm the princess, Maximus. I order you too," I snap, trying not to smile when his eyes widen.

"Damn, your cute when you're bossy too," he smiles, "Well, Darrius went to get some of the cure to vampirism to see what it will do to werewolves."

"And how is he going to do that?" As I ask it, I already know the answer. The blood drains from my face.

"He is going to find Eddrick," Maximus says slowly, "And then go hunting for some werewolves."

"It's too dangerous," I say quickly, "What can I do?"

"Nothing," Maximus snaps, suddenly his amusement gone, "You're staying here with me - I'll keep you safe. Do you understand, Jennifer? If you even try to escape I will tie you to the bed. I like you tied down anyway," he says this seriously, slowly standing up, "I'm going to shower - don't try and leave. Jaime and Rafael should be back with food soon anyway."

I shrug, still feeling sick because I was both so hungry and worried about Darrius.

He was putting himself in danger and I could do nothing about it. I didn't even understand what he was doing but I'd put my faith into him that he had a good plan.

A good enough plan where he wouldn't die.

In the mean time - I just had to deal with Maximus.
