suffering (noun): mental or physical pain or problems

-Luke's Point of View-

I watched the red Ferrari ever since it rolled it's wheels onto the asphalt belonging to our street. Both cars were moving at an incredible speed. I hadn't paid much attention to the other car but then I saw Jess turn around in the driver's seat. I don't believe she was aware of heading straight towards the Ferrari. I began waving my arms in the air to get her attention but it was too late. The moment her head jerked back, the vehicles had slammed into each other.

Everything seemed to play in slow motion. The loud crashing of metal, the breaking of glass and Jess's screams just seemed like background noise. I stood paralyzed, unable to think straight or act immediately. The girl I loved was most certainly injured, that thought snapped me out of my trance and I sprinted towards the crash site. On my way, I whipped my phone out from my pocket and dialed the emergency number.

"000, what's your emergency?" The operator asked calmly.

"My friend just had a car accident, I think she's injured. Please send someone over." I rushed, my pace getting quicker and quicker as I was moving closer to possibly the most horrifying sight of my life.

"Stay calm, sir. Apply what you know about first aid and we'll track your number in a minute, a vehicle should be with you in no more than three minutes." With that, the call ended.

I jumped over some scattered metal and yanked Jess's door open. I was right, this was the most horrifying sight I had ever seen. Jess's head was resting on the steering wheel, which was already stained in blood thanks to the head injury she had sustained. I didn't know what to do but I couldn't just stand and watch her static body. I wrapped my arms around her and pulled her out of the wreckage.

Kneeling on the ground, I placed her head on my knees. Jess looked like she was sleeping peacefully, as if nothing had happened. She looked like a carefree angel, an angel she was but carefree was far from it. I brought my fingers to her neck, checking for a pulse and thanking the heavens that there was one, no matter how weak. I had to keep her alive until the emergency vehicle got here. I grabbed my jacket and pressed on her would, trying to moderate the bleeding. I remembered from high school that bleeding is a major cause of shock so you should stem the flow wherever possible.

Right on cue, two ambulances roared down the road side by side and stopped next to me. One team huddled over the other driver while the second team helped around Jess. My heart stopped as they pried her from my arms. It felt like they were taking her away forever and I was never going to see her again. My mind told me she was going to be alright but my heart wanted to stay with her in case she might be breathing her last breaths.

I wanted to be with her until the possible end.

-Omniscient Point of View-

The paramedics carefully, but rapidly, lifted Jess's body onto a stretcher. Two strong men hauled her into the ambulance and Luke joined them in the back. The doctors immediately began fussing over her, checking that her airway was clear and making sure she was breathing. They quickly stabilized her neck and spine by using a brace. One of the assistants was trying to stop the bleeding that was erupting from her head injury. Luke couldn't stop staring at them and wondering if what they were doing was going to help.

"Will she be okay?" He asked, his lips quivering and eyes tearing. Anyone could see that the guilt and pain was eating away at his soul, slowly but effectively.
