Kay's P.O.V

"Do you ... Do you like honey chicken? I can't eat all of this," I lied through my teeth.  My heart was racing as I began to mentally slap myself for even dreaming of asking Christopher what was seconds from coming out of my lips. For sure if I asked him my real question he would be silent and then suggest taking me home with a lie that it was getting late. It was something he would always do years ago. But here I was about to ask bluntly if he...

"What did you really want to ask?" Christopher questioned as his eyes bore into me.

"T-That ... Was it." I said with a smile that I knew didn't reach my eyes. The expression that was planted on his face showed me that he knew I was lying.

Stuffing chicken into my small mouth I looked over the cliff at the city below, hoping he would just leave it alone.

"I am not going to stop bugging you until you ask me what was really on your mind moments ago," he said to me. I sighed and sat down the container of food. My hands fell in my lap as I glanced over and up at him.

"... Can you just drop it?! I decided not to ask you for a reason! Now either leave it alone or take me home," I tried to say in a stern voice. Christopher studied me for a second before standing up. I furrowed my eyebrows at him in confusion. "What are you doing?" I quizzed. Standing in front of me, he looked down at my sitting figure.

"I am getting up and about to put the food away so I can take you home," he admitted and then bent down to collect the food.

"Wait? What?!" His head turned and looked at me with a straight face.

"You said that if I wouldn't drop it that I might as well take you home, and that is the thing Kay ... I will not drop the wonder of what your question was. So, if you don't want to hear me ask over and over, it is wise for me to give you a lift home," he spoke and not once did his voice crack which showed me he was serious.

Anger started to boil inside of me, "I can't tell you because if I do you will avoid the answer and make some excuse to take me home!" I yelled at him.

"How do you know I will do that? You haven't even asked the question.”

"Fine, you want me to ask?!"

"Yes!" At this point we were both outraged and shouting at each other and in the heat of my anger I asked it:

"Do you love me?!" All traces of anger fled his face and a blank, expressionless look replaced it. I began to hear crickets and the sound of flies swarming around in the air. It officially was dead silent and I knew it wouldn't change. Bending down, I picked up Christopher's car keys and looked over at him.

"I am just going to go to the car and wait ... Take your time," with that I walked away and was not surprised that Christopher didn't call after me.

I began my slow hike down the cliff trail towards the car. I must have not been half way down when I heard the sound of a twig breaking behind me. I stopped walking and turned around, expecting to see Christopher. But when I twisted around I was faced with the uphill trail that I just walked down. Right then I knew someone was watching me.

"Christopher?! Come out! I know you are out there!" I called out knowing he was just joking around to lighten the tension that was bound to be between us.

After a second of not seeing or hearing him, I frantically let my eyes scan the forest around me. The feeling of someone watching me didn't fade. Shrugging it off, I continued downward towards the car. Not minutes later a sound of a twig once again breaking behind me caught my attention. I stopped and my breathing became heavy as fear shank in.
