Winter break was over far too soon for anyone's liking, but you didn't mind too much because school gave you a reason to actually get out of bed in the morning and socialize. That being said, just because you didn't mind, didn't mean you were eager to go, but since your mom had practically dragged you out of bed to make you get ready, you saw no point in trying to stay home.
You had just finished shoving all of your things into your school bag, and you were now fishing for your shoes that were currently buried by several other pairs of shoes. Before you could even find your left shoe, your door swung open and it ended up hitting the wall harder than the person had anticipated; said person was none other than your homeboy, Jared, who cursed fairly loudly after the door hit the wall. "Shit! Sorry bout that." You grabbed your second shoe, slipping it on to your foot. "Don't worry about it." Jared let himself in and sat down on a stool beside the breakfast bar and waited for you to finish getting ready. "Hey y/n, guess who's getting a car next month." "I dunno, Evan?" Jared rolled his eyes. "No dipshit, me!" "Well, that's good. Now I don't have to walk with you everyday." You ties your shoes and stood up beside Jared, who had punch you in the arm. "Shut up, you love walking with me, also, you don't even walk with me everyday." "Yes I do, don't even try and pretend I don't." "Oh, so you don't ditch me to get rides from Connor sometimes?" You were annoyed by his passive-aggressive comment, but you knew it was true, but you weren't going to admit to that. "Jared, it's too early in the morning for your complaining." "It's never too early to hear me complain." You groaned as the two of you left the house to start walking to school. The walk was about as chatty as it usually was, but you couldn't help but feel as though something was off, but you decided not to put too much thought into it. "Hey, you know, you should come over after school and it can just be the both of us. We hardly ever do that anymore." Jared looked at you hopefully, which made your stomach churn with guilt. "Dude, I'm really sorry, but I already made plans with Connor..." Jared's hopeful expression dropped, and he attempted to hide his disappointment, and you heard him mutter "Of course you did," to himself. "We can hang out tomorrow though." "It's shocking that you're not taking every chance you can get to hang out with someone as amazing as me, but I suppose I can make time in my oh-so busy schedule to hang out tomorrow." He had a playful smirk on his face and you rolled your eyes, though, you couldn't help but laugh at Jared's stupid sense of humor. "I know. It must be so hard to cut down on Fortnight and gay porn just to make time for an inferior individual such as myself." Jared pretended to examine his nails, glancing at you from the corner of his eye. "It really is. I need to make time for porn, games, and hanging around you, on top of being nice to Evan for my car insurance. I really do live a difficult life." You pulled a resting bitch face and gave Jared a knowing look. "Oh please, don't even try and pull that car insurance excuse with me. You and I both know you love Evan like a brother." Jared fake scoffed at you. "Yeah, well he sure as hell doesn't need to know that."
You kept talking until you arrived at school, and Jared's previous pettiness blew right over your head. You made your way to Connor's locker like you did on most mornings, and noticed Zoe chatting with Evan by her locker. You couldn't make out what they were saying, but you saw Evan picking at the skin around his nails anxiously, avoiding any and all eye contact. Other than Evan's usual anxiety, it seemed as though things were going well. You smiled to yourself, glad that your plan had worked, and the two were hitting it off nicely.
You turned around the corner of the hallway and walked over to Connor, who was pulling a copy of Fahrenheit 451- a novel assigned to all AP English students- out of his locker. He looked exhausted and you were slightly to blame, as you had stayed on the phone together until 3 in the morning just talking about feelings and shit. His face lit up a bit when he saw you, and he slammed his locker closed, making you flinch for just a second. Connor carelessly shoved the book into his bag, swinging it over his shoulders, and walking the short distance down the hall to you. You finger gunned him and instead of doing it back, he rolled his eyes like an uncultured little shit. "Hey loser, how'd you sleep last night?"
"Shut up, you know damn well how I slept."
"Relax, you know you love me."
"Love is a strong word."
"Yeah, but it's the right one."
Connor said nothing in response, but nodded, knowing this was the ntruth, but wasn't going to fully admit to it.
"That's what I thought."

The first few classes were uneventful, and the only change in routine was the boost in affection between you and Connor. Only slightly though. Connor is not the kind of person to show pda, and the fact that he shows any non-aggressive emotions in public, is a big step for him. The occasional hand squeeze, or a casual hand resting on your leg were the only things that could even slightly resemble romantic things Connor would do in front of people. It didn't bother you though. It's not like you had made your relationship known to anyone yet, and you both felt that it was better that way, as not to gain negative attention from the wrong people.

The dismissal bell rang and students were practically sprinting out of the building to get home. You made your way outside to the student parking lot and walked over to Connor's car, where he was already waiting for you. You noticed Zoe sitting in the back seat, where you could safely assume Connor forced her to sit. You opened up the front passenger seat and slid into the car. "How's it hanging my guys?" Zoe laughed and Connor simply gave a small, hardly noticeable smile. "Hm, tough crowd I guess." Connor looked over at you and playfully replied. "I'm sorry, were you expecting actual responses?" You rolled your eyes and buckled your seatbelt before looking back at Zoe. "Well how are you on this wonderful day?"
"Oh I'm just great, you know, freezing my ass off, wanting to get hit by a car, the usual." You laughed at her comment before facing forward again and Connor drove away from the school. "I have to drive her off at home before we go to your place." "Alrighty my dude." It didn't take long to get to the Murphy house and drop off Zoe off before heading over to your place. You both got out of the car and you scrambled to get the spare house key out from it's hiding place, and unlock the door. "Yo, I don't think you've ever actually been inside my house." Connor shook his head "no." You waited to open the door when you heard barking come from inside. "Quick warning, the dog doesn't like strangers so I'd refrain from petting him for a while." He nodded and you went inside before him so you could hold Dexter by his collar. You dragged Dexter into the living room, which was blocked off from the rest of the house by a baby gate.
"Welcome to my home or whatever." You gave unenthusiastic jazz hands making Connor chuckle. "Alright man, we can skip the grand tour and just head up to my room if you want."
"Uh yeah, sure. You know you don't have to call me "man" or "dude" when we're alone right?"
"Oh, yeah. I guess that's just how I'm used to talking."
Connor simply nodded and stepped closer to you and took your hand. It was silent for a moment and you looked up at him to look him in the eyes before yelling "Yeet!" And dragging him upstairs. When you reached the top of the stairs you released Connor's hand and he just glared at you, causing you to laugh. "I'm sorry dude, but the look on your face right now is priceless."
"This is why I have trust issues."
"Babe, I'm sorry, I'm done fucking with you."
Connor was going to make a snappy remark before realizing something.
"Did you just call me "babe"?"
"Did I? Sorry Con-man, I'll try not to do that ag-"
"No! Um, no, you can call me babe if you want."
"Whatever you say babe."
His face was beat red and he refused to make eye contact with you. "Let's just go to your room already." You nodded and took his hand, leading him down the hall to your bedroom.
It was weird to see Connor acting awkward but it was an improvement from being angry you supposed.
