Mark's POV

------------------

Days passed in the horrid hospital, until a doctor finally came in.

"We're ready for you Ms. McHill." He says.

We had already signed all of the surgery release papers, so the nurses were getting the operating room ready.

Ron hopped off Kenzie's hospital bed, and tugged at my shirt.

"Is Kenzie going to be okay?" He whispered.

"She'll be fine, I promise." I say, slightly unsure.

"You guys worry too much," Kenzie giggles, "I'll be fine, Ron. I promise." She smiles at the both of us.

She gestures for Ron to sit on the bed next to her.

"I'll be out before you even know it," She smiles to him, "and, as for you," she looks over at me, "I love you." She says.

"I love you too." I reply, taking her hand in mine.

a nurse comes in, and wheels Kenzie's bed out of the room.

Ron and I follow after her, until they come to a stop in front of the operating room.

"The doctor will be here soon." She says, walking away.

"Promise you'll be here when I come out?" Kenzie asks, looking up at me.

"I promise." I reply.

Ron begins getting tired of standing, so he sits on a nearby chair.

"Mark?" Kenzie whispers.

"Yeah?"

"I'm scared." She admits quietly.

"I am too... but, like you said; you'll be out before you know it." I assure her.

A few nurses come by, and I give Kenzie a soft kiss, slightly feeling the cold tube above her lip.

They roll her away, and I join Ron in the waiting room.

"How long before Kenzie's surgery is done?" He asks.

"A few hours." I sigh.

------

The hours slowly ticked by, and I felt a small vibration in my back pocket.

I take out my phone, and answer.

"Mark! Honey! How are you?!" I hear my mother greet me.

"Hi, Mom." I smile.

"You haven't called much lately."

"I've still been in the hospital with Kenzie, sorry." I apologize.

"When's her kidney removal?" She asks.

"She's in the operating room right now." I inform.

"Mark, she'll be fine." My mom assures me.

"I know," I smile, "How's everything in New York?" I ask.

"Lonely. You're father and I miss you and your brothers."

"Liam just came to visit you." I laugh.

"He came for work, so he was busy. When will you be able to visit?" She asks.

"Well- I can't just leave Kenzie..."

"No! I mean with her!" My mom laughs, "She's all you talk about! I'd love to meet the girl that swept my son off his feet."

"Mom! She didn't sweep me off my feet!"

"Hun, you're in love with her, and we both know it." She pauses, "Now, are you coming to visit me?"

"I'm sure she'll love to meet you." I smile.

I see a few nurses roll Kenzie, "Mom, Kenzie's out! I- uh, I'll call you back later, love you." I rush.

"Love you too." She hangs up.

I rush over to her, and see her entire stomach wrapped in bandage.

She still had on an IV.

They roll her into a new room, and just as I'm following, a doctor pushes me away.

"I'm sorry, you can't visit her just yet."

"Why not?" I ask, trying to get passed him.

"She's still at the risk of getting an infection. She needs space." He argues.

"She's my girlfriend, I promised I'd be there when she woke up."

"I'm sorry." He simply walks away.

For the next few days, Ron and I asked to see her, but got denied.

About five days after her surgery, I feel an emptiness from not seeing her for so long.

"Don't you think it's about time she woke up?" I ask a doctor.

"Sir, like I've said before; some people just take longer to over come the anesthetics." He explains.

I didn't want an explanation though, I wanted to see Kenzie.

I walk over to her rooms' window and see her still body lay there.

Her chest struggle to rise and drop. He tiny hands were in the same position they had been the last day. And the day before.

"I want to see her too." Ron whines, unable to reach the window.

I pick him up so he's standing on the edge of the windowsill.

"She's okay, right?" He asks, looking at her intently.

"Yeah, she's fine... She'll wake up soon."

"The thing under her nose is gone!" Ron yells happily.

I look closely and realize he was right. Her breathing tube had been removed.

"Yeah- yeah it is." I smile.
