Prologue

The little boy, cold from the rain, tore through the storm. Icy fingers dripped down his back, promising eventual death. He stumbles along, barely conscious of the ground beneath his torn, bare feet. Finally, he spots an alley with a slight overhang available for shelter. With a quiet cry of desperation, he rushes to it, and crashes to the asphalt, skinning his knees. Lightning snaps, and pops in the distance, occasionally causing the boy to jolt out of his exhaustive troubled sleep.
Finally, the boys eyes open wide, and he scrambles back in alarm. A man stands before him, looking at the hollowed figure. Instantly, the boy replaces his look of fear, with a menacing glare that the man merely chuckles at. He snatches the boy by his collar, and throws him into the street. The boy rolls, and comes to his feet with a roar. He charges the man, who easily sidesteps, causing the boy to crash into the wall beyond.
As darkness tumbles into his vision, he hears the man speak, "Sleep now little wolf, for the time has come for your rise."
