Evan froze, from what exact emotion I do not know, and is eyes widened. All was silent for a few moments before his expression appeared near-frantic. He put down the knife suddenly and ran a frustrated hand through his beautiful brown hair.

Though I know I should not find any but my Sodalis to be beautiful, I could not deny his beauty any longer. It leaked from him like the nectar of a flower, drawing all towards him. From my forays in the forest I have seen many breath-taking sights - the dive of a falcon in flight, the emergence of butterfly from a cocoon, the first steps of a new-born deer - but for some reason the simplest motions of Evan called out to my soul, leaving it branded with his special aura. There was but one word to describe this feeling: illecebra [attraction].

"Are you sure?" he questioned tensely, bringing me out of the stupor his actions had caused.

"Positive, man," replied the Beta after a nervous glance in my direction.

"$h!t!" cussed Evan. "You stay with Brucie and I'll fend her off."

At this, Evan flashed me a smile meant to convey his apology before running out of the kitchen and off to attend the task which was such a pressing matter. I watched his exit until one of the many doors here blocked my vision. Even after I could no longer see him, I followed him with my mind, keeping a slight watch over Andrew to ensure that they would remain safe.

The Beta chuckled, breaking the tense silence that had settled over the room at Evan's departure and I let my focus on Andrew wane. "How've you been, Brucie?" he asked me, taking the unoccupied stool next to me at the counter.

"Things have been going well. I assume the same is true with you?" I replied courteously, ever mindful of my manners.

He nodded. "It's been less than a day since we last saw each other."

"It has felt longer," I replied honestly with a shrug of my shoulders.

Silence descended upon the room once more.

With another small chuckle Jackson stood up and began to continue what Evan had been doing, but it did not captivate me in the same manner. Perhaps it was this accursed illecebra that had allowed me to remain interested when talking with or merely watching Evan. I cannot explain it, but the world feels...different now that I have made the acquaintance of Evan. Either way, I did not wish to gaze upon Jackson as he worked.

I turned to look out to their "backyard", as the Wolves termed it, and enjoy the serenity of the morning. In the Grove, I would rise earlier than the others to enjoy the sunrise while watching the forest come to life. While I did not do that here this morning, I watched the world outside the glass windows. There was a massive expanse of grass and stone laid out in a pattern that, while I could not fathom it's purpose, seemed to make paths. Between the stone walkways were flowers and bushes, all carefully maintained and certainly not wild. I began to feel sad for the trapped plants, but lost my melancholy thoughts as Jackson cleared his throat. I turned my attention towards him.

"So," Jackson began with a drawl, "does he know?"

"No."

"Are you going to tell him?"

"I have no plans to do so."

Silence.

"I'll have to tell him eventually. You know that, right?"

I remained silent, finding it more favorable to let him work out his path by himself. As my Avo used to say, "A path is not our own until we have stumbled along it." It would be obvious to any observant soul that Jackson has quite a long journey ahead of him upon which he must stumble.
