The semi went through the red light, much to my surprise. I hit the breaks as fast and as hard as I could. The tires screeched and the car spun in circles.
My eyes closed and I could feel the world dissolve around me. I could not crash. Not now. Especially not now! I was needed and I couldn't-
Crash!
Broken glass scattered over my body and I felt it cut my skin open. My head hit the steering wheel with such force and I blacked out.
I woke up in hospital with no recollection of what had happened. Apart from the ringing in my ears I also heard voices from outside the corridor. Two nurses discussing me.
"His name is Marcel Beauville. He was driving a Mercedes and then he hit a truck carrying exported cargo. The cargo was damaged but the truck driver remains unscathed. He is suffering from a concussion and a lot of blood loss. It is kind of sad that he will be sent to prison as soon as he is fully recovered. He is being charged with manslaughter, after all. If he had only been quicker, that man would not have died." The one nurse explained to the other.
