Chapter Twenty-Six

So the week went by fast and tonight is Kamiya's party. It's also Collin's 17th birthday. I got him a gift bag full of amazing things.

"Mom?" I asked

"Yes?"

"Can you come here?"

"Where are you?"

"I'm in the living room."

"I'm coming just one sec, I'm putting your brother to sleep."

After a couple of minutes, mom came into the living room and sat on the couch.

"So what's up?"

"Can I go over Layla's house tonight?"

"Why?"

"To study."

"What time?"

"Seven probably."

"Be back here by ten."

"I got it."

"I was really hoping you would watch Ian tonight."

"If you want me to I can."

"No, you have to study. I want time alone with him anyway so it's fine."

"Okay."

Mom left the living room. She disappeared into her room. I texted Kamiya.

Me: Hi

Kamiya: hey

Me: So what time does your party start?

Kamiya: 8

Me: K

Kamiya: So you're coming?

Me: Yeah

Kamiya: Great! See you later!

Me: K

Someone knocked on the door.

"I'm coming hold on."

I opened the door.

"Layla?"

"Can I come in?"

"Yeah of course, by the way, you look comfortable." I said

"I am."

"That's a good thing."

"So I was wondering if you're going to homecoming?"

"No, I don't think so." I said while pulling my hair behind my ear.

"Why? You should go."

"I don't know, I don't have anyone to go with."

"Go with Collin."

"No."

"Why not? Why are you always rejecting him?"

"I don't reject him."

"Yes you do, he's a good guy. A hot guy at that." Layla said

"You're funny."

"I'm being serious. Seriously what's wrong with you?"

"Nothing."

"Clearly something is wrong."

"I just don't want to be in a relationship right now. After everything that's happening, I'm not ready for all of that."

"Well, I understand."

"Thank you. Is that the only reason why you came to my house?"

"No, I also came because my mom said I can go to Kamiya's party."
