Niall didn’t like different. He didn’t like things changing suddenly. He likes touring the world with his four best friends, and his four other brothers. He liked missing home and wishing he was home, but he also knew being with his four brothers was like home too. He liked wondering if Theo would remember him the next time he was around. He liked cheekily flirting with interviewers because he wasn’t with anyone special. He liked staying the same way he was before he was famous. He didn’t like getting braces so his teeth were straight. He didn’t like the idea of dying his hair all the time because he was meant to be the blond.

At most, he didn’t like that he was falling for one of his best friends, someone he thought was just a brother. It’s definitely not a brotherly feeling anymore.

Those butterflies aren’t meant to happen. Those happy smiles aren’t meant to happen when he’s sad, just because he sees the one person who makes him happy. Those giggles that just come out because his dork of a crush tells stupid jokes. Those long loving hugs aren’t meant to happen because, they’re supposed to be brothers, right?

Wrong. They were not meant to be brothers. They had a stronger connection - if that’s possible. Niall always thought brothers were a stronger connection than lovers, because, well, you grow up with them.

But he thought different now. He thought Harry was his stronger connection, and he didn’t know if he liked that. He didn’t know if Harry would be okay with that. Sure he wasn’t the straightest person alive, but then again, Harry wasn’t homophobic.

It all changed when someone asked why Niall wasn’t so cheerful. It wasn’t that Niall wasn’t happy, more like he was confused. He thought about telling Harry, maybe not that he liked him, but maybe that he was definitely not straight anymore. He thought about asking Liam’s opnion, maybe seeing if he was smart enough to guess why he’s suddenly not straight. Or maybe ask Zayn, because Zayn’s engaged, maybe he has relationship advice. Or maybe Louis who’s been dating Eleanor for nearly two years, or something, Niall can’t remember.

“Niall,” Liam tapped Niall’s shoulder, and he was raising an eyebrow at his friend who looked like he was too deep into thought. Like maybe his brain would explode from all the thinking going on in his head. “Mate what’s going on lately?” And for once, Liam was actually worrying about Niall, not physically - since Niall did have knee problems.

“Oh,” Niall said, noticing that someone was trying to talk to him. He turned to see a concerned Liam, who was almost frowning. “I’m sorry, just, spaced out.”

“I know, I can see that. What’s wrong Niall?” Liam asked, “Seriously you’ve been staring at that wall like it’ll give you answers or something.” Liam said, furrowing his eyebrows as his sentence sounded stupider aloud.

“What the fuck. That was a weird sentence.” Niall mumbled, raising his eyebrows as he spoke. “But hey what did you need again?” Niall asked, suddenly remembering Liam was tapping on his shoulder.

“I was wondering what was wrong with you?” Liam said, almost questioning himself.

“Oh, um sorry. I’ve been thinking about something a lot lately.” Niall confessed, wondering why he wasn’t just straight up telling Liam what he was thinking about. “Actually, can I tell you something?” Niall questioned, finally mustering what’s been bothering him: the confession of his thoughts.

“Sure, you can tell me whatever Niall.” Liam said, nodding slightly. “Now what’s bothering you?” Liam questioned.

“Okay, so i’m starting to think I might like someone. But it’s not like my usual. It’s way off. As in, it’s not a girl. I kind of like a guy. And I don’t know if I should tell him, because he might not like me back.” Niall confessed, out of breathe from confessing all at once. Niall closed his eyes, thinking of a million ways Liam could react, before Liam actually replied.
