38: That Question

 

                Huminga ako nang malalim at muling tumingin sa kanya. Ang hirap magsalita kapag mahal mo ‘yung nasa harapan mo. Nahihirapan akong magsalita dahil aminado naman akong ang dami kong pinlanong masama para lang pagselosi siya, pero heto siya, ibinababa ang pride para sa isip batang katulad ko. Am I worth enough for this?

                “Rebecca, this time, let’s stop hurting each other. Para na tayong tanga. Let’s do this for real. Let’s compromise… and let’s be honest with each other. I’ll be honest, promise.” He smiled.

                “Ako… I promise to listen. Makikinig na ako sa lahat ng sasabihin mo. I’ll make sure that I’ll tell you everything that I have to do. And of course, I’ll be honest.” And I replied a smile.

                Binigyan niya ako ng isang half smile na halos palabasin na ang puso ko sa sobrang kilig. Totoo nga talagang there’s a rainbow always after the rain.

                Muli, napawi niya lahat ng sakit, inis, galit, at murang nai-reserve ko para sa kanya.

                “Let’s do this agreement, for real? Please, Bec? Ayoko nang nagseselos ako sa tuwing kasama mo si Jael. Mas ayokong kasama mo siya. Ayoko ring may kausap kang iba, kahit pa si Kuya.”

                Sa lahat ng narinig kong salita mula sa isang possessive na tao, dito lang ako kinilig. Ewan ko rin, tanga nga ako siguro para matuwa s negative na bagay. Mas umiiba ang pakiramdam ko. Parang nag-eelevate na ang katawan ko sa sobrang swerte ko dahil isang Railey Medrana ang nagsasabi nito sa harapan ko. Oo na, ako na ang swerte.

                “S-sure,” tipid kong sagot. Dahil baka bigla na lang akong maiyak nang walang dahilan.

                “Bec, I have one last question,” seryoso niyang sabi.

                “Ano ‘yun?” inosente kong sagot.

                Nang matapos ang kanta, agad naming kaming bumalik sa kanya-kanya naming upuan. Oras na rin kasi para sa pagkain kaya pagbalik naming ay nakalagay na ‘yung mga kubyertos sa mesa namin.

                Nasa tabi ko pa rin si Sir Jael, samantalang nasa same table lang rin naman si Sir Rye at Ma’am Chloe. Pansin kong hindi na sila nag-uusap nang matagal. Malayo na ang upuan ni Sir Rye kay Ma’am Chloe. Something that I can be proud of. Ginaya ko si Railey, hindi na rin ako masyadong nakipag-usap kay Jael. I just know when to talk to him without Railey being the subject.

                “Rebecca, what drinks do you want?” tanong ng katabi kong si Sir Jael.

                “I think, kaya ko namang pagsilbihan ang sarili ko,” sagot ko sa kanya.,

                At napansin kong napasimangot siya sa sinabi ko at biglang tumingin kay Railey nang masama.

                “Really? Let’s see,” sagot naman niya.
