Hunter

"Hello?" I answer my phone, sleep lacing my voice.

"Hunter!" My mom's annoying voice screeches.

"Whattt?"

"Where are, are you still with that girl?"

"If by that girl, you mean my sister then yes. Yes I'm still with her, why?"

"Why didn't you take Patience with you?" She doesn't really want Patience around Melissa anymore than Patience wants to be around her. But she wants to see what Melissa will do so they can use it against her by telling dad.

"Mom, I'm not doing this with you. If Patience wants to come she has her own car to get here. If not, I personally don't give a fuck."

I usually try not to use that kind of language around my mom, but sometimes it just slips out.

"Your mom?" I turn to the owner of voice.

"Mmhm." I pull them against my bare chest.

"I guess Patience is coming down to be her spy, I bet she's gonna bring her airhead friends too."

"Great, more people I gotta try not to kill."

"Rae, behave you already know they're going try to rile you two up."

When my sister left after her dumb boyfriend pissed her off Raven and I talked. I was overly happy to hear her say she felt the same way about me as I felt about her. Rather than two step around each other we went ahead and sealed the deal. This one is mine, I ain't sharing, and anybody that was before me can keep their ass in the past.

"Where are you going?" I ask as she wiggles out of my hold on her.

"I'm going to go warn my bestfriend that the bitch pack is on their way."

I lay back with my hands behind my head waiting on her to finish informing my sister. Little footsteps enter my room, and I'm get shaken by the owner of the footsteps.

"Done telling her already?" I turn my head to look at her.

"No, but get up you have to see this!"

My girlfriend practically yanks me out of my bed dragging me down the hall. She finally stops tugging me along as we stop at Mel's room.

"Babe, you dragged me out of bed to stand at my sister's door?"

"No, stupid, look." She pointed towards my sister's bed.

Melissa was on her back sleeping while Ethan was nestled between her legs laying on her chest. My sister's leg slung lazily over his waist, and his arm was wrapped securely around hers. He would occasionally tighten his hold on her, like he was protecting her. Raven snapped a quick picture of the intimate moment.

"Are they always like this?"

"When they're sleeping, I really don't know because I've never seen them sleep together. But he's definitely always like this with her when he's awake. The way he keeps her tucked into his side when the three of us are out has guys afraid to even look her way."

Hmmm, maybe I had this tool all wrong. Maybe he does care about my sister.

"We should wake them up. We've gotta tell them that my sister's coming."

I shook Melissa lightly causing her and Ethan to both wake up.

"Hunter, what do you want?" She asked as she rubbed the sleep from her eyes.

"Patience and her little squad are on their way here."

"Whyyy?" She whined.

"My mom's all in a tizzy because I didn't ask her if she wanted to come with me. You and I both know she's only coming because my mom wants to know what you're up to?"

"Ugh, I knew our weekend without her wouldn't last long. If she's coming then I know the other two stooges are coming."

The sound of the door opening and being slammed closed let us know it was no longer just us in the house.

"We're here." Patience screeched.

"Go away." Melissa mimicked loud enough for only us to hear making us laugh.

"Behave Lissa." Ethan kissed the shell of her ear.

We reluctantly made our way downstairs to greet our unwanted guest. Patience and her friends stood at the bottom of the steps like they were expecting something.

"So what are we doing guys?" She asked with false enthusiasm in her voice.

Melissa stepped past them with Ethan trailing behind her.

"Not sure what you're doing, but we have plans." I knew she didn't have anything planned for us, but we all went along with it.

This is the first time I haven't seen my sister back down from Patience. I knew she had some kind of fight in her. I could never understand how our dad was okay with pretending that Melissa wasn't one of us. She's my baby sister, and I would always treat her as such. My dad has his picks and chooses of when he wants to act like her father, but I will always take pride in being her big brother. The day she gets bold enough to tell the world that she is the daughter of William Dawson, I'll be right there telling her how proud I am of her for doing it. I've been pushing her to tell since we were kids, but my mom has had her so afraid that she would never open her mouth. Somehow I feel like that's all about to change.

"They're cute huh?" Raven broke my train of thought as she referred to Melissa and Ethan dancing goofily to the music playing in the country bar we're in.

"As much as I hate to admit it, yeah they are. I've never seen my sister so happy."

When Ethan spun her into his arms she smiled before kissing his cheek. I've ever seen her smile like that when we were little, and I would ask her to come play with me. Melissa stayed under me so much that it's like I practically raised her. I taught her how to ride a bike, helped her with her bullies, told her about boys. She even came to be about her first period, now that was awkward as hell, but she didn't have anybody else in my house to go to. My dad was always working, my mom wanted stay as far away from Melissa as possible, and she made sure Patience did the same. So when that happened she had nobody to come to about her female situation but me. She's basically my first child, that's probably why I'm so protective of her.

Everything she is comes from me, I may not have been able to get her everything like a father wishes to. But I was definitely there for her like our father should have been. Too bad he's so spineless that he can't even take pride in having a daughter like Melissa because of my crazy ass mother.

"Come on babe." I secure my arm around Raven leading her to the dance floor.

"Let's show 'em how it's done."

For the next hour we danced our asses off to the most countriest country music ever. We even line danced. The whole time I couldn't help but see the happiness on my sister's face. God, my sister is way overdue for this happiness. Please let her keep it.
