"So it says that she left two years ago," Alessa stated.

The voice on the other side confirmed her thoughts. It was good that Logan wasn't here. He would have been so disappointed.

Poor Logan. The guy had been through a lot the last couple of days. She couldn't imagine what his situation was like. At least her parents had always been upfront about their general sleaziness.

And now his mom had worked for her parents.

"And there is nothing that says about her next place of employment or contact information?" She asked even though the answer was already rather clear.

"No," Elaine said. "I looked around for more information but there is nothing. I think that we have gotten to a dead end for now. My informants will tell me if they find out more." It was something that she had feared.

"And we'll find her."

"Of course we will."

After a brief goodbye they hung up. Alessa still had work to do before Nic, Dan and Logan would be here for the afternoon.

The story that she was translating was very entertaining. It lifted her spirits from the earlier phone call and the crappy morning that she had had. It had just been one of those mornings where things didn't go the way that she planned.

Like how she hadn't planned to spill coffee over her arm and give herself a rather ugly-looking second-degree burn and how she hadn't taken in account the fact that her brother would forget his lunch and they would have to drive back and arrive late at school because of a bad traffic jam on the way back.

It was just one of those mornings.

The phone call hadn't helped but the story was making up a good portion of all the things that had gone wrong.

"I'm home," Nic called out almost as soon as the front door had swung open.

An amused smile came on her lips as she caught sight of her brother walking in with a hop in his step. It looked like he had a good day. Logan and Dan followed Nic without the hop in the steps but there were no frowns on their faces either.

Dan followed Nic into the kitchen. It was nice to see that Dan was feeling at home. Even though Alessa and Logan weren't planning on moving in together anytime soon, it was still nice to see that his brother felt at home.

She must have been doing something right.

"Hey," Logan greeted before quickly pecking her lips as he took a seat next to her. The table was spread with papers, a book and a laptop.

"Are you almost done?" He asked.

"I am done for today," she said as she closed her laptop. "I still have a couple of days to get this story finished."

"More time for us then," Logan said as he wiggled his eyebrows.

A chuckle escaped her lips as she playfully slapped his shoulder before giving him another quick peck. It was nice to have some time together. Last week both of them had been swamped with work so there had been barely anytime to see each other.

It was nice to have some downtime with just the two of them.

They spent most of the afternoon and evening catching up while drinking beers. The rest of that time was spent helping their brothers with their homework.

Alessa mostly helped. Logan just made some comments about it being insanely difficult and discussing why teachers were so evil.

It was just a regular evening.
