Yesterday was the same as yesterday. Woke up, showered, got dressed, let the dogs out, left. After awhile life gets repetitive.
So, I decided to hit up that new coffee shop. Change up my routine a bit.
I was in line, impatiently tapping my foot.
"Come on people, I don't have all day." muttered under my breath. Coffee lines go extra slow, just like in a Starbucks. I hope these people know they're wasting my precious time and money.
But, after about 30 seconds of complaining in my head, I hear i little voice go "Hi, welcome to The Java Joint how may I help you?"
Okay, I guess it wasn't as slow as I thought. "Just give me a medium black coffee please." I say looking at the man. He doesn't look much different to me age wise. He has a baby face, but he's really tall. However, a lot of people are just taller than me.
"Name?"
"Um, Brendon?" I asked not knowing why he was asking my name. He was writing it on the cup.
"May I ask your name?" I cocked an eyebrow at the man.
"Ryan." he smiled setting the cup down.
"You know, Brendon means 'prince'?" he said randomly.
Well obviously it does. I mean, look at me.
"And looking at you, I can tell it was no mistake." He glanced at me. Was he hitting on me?
"Buddy, I'm flattered, but I'm happily married thank you." I smiled holding up my hand with my ring on it.
Ryan smiled, shaking his head "Just being nice."
"2.75" he was asking for my money. I nodded grabbing my wallet, taking the money out on the low.
A rich guy like me can't be seen in a mediocre coffee shop like this.
I handed Ryan a 5$ bill and he took it. "keep the change." I said before he could give me the change.
"Alright, that should be out here soon."
I nodded and sat down at the little tables where other people sat. I found an empty one and occupied it, patiently waiting for my coffee.
"Brendon!" I heard Ryan's voice call out. I stood up and made my way to the counter to retrieve my coffee.
Ryan was holding out the coffee cup, and I took it, our hands briefly touching.
But when our hands touched, I felt something. It felt as if the world was more clear, I understood everything in my life. Everything felt.. golden.
I shook my head to get those ridiculous thoughts out of my head. He's a guy I just met 5 minutes ago.
Plus, I'm married. I don't care how cute the barista boy is, or how bisexual I actually am. I'll probably never see him again, and it'll probably never happen.
"Come see me again sometime Brendon." he smirked. Okay guess that ruins that statement.
"Will do Ryan" I smiled leaving the café walking to my car.
I sat there for awhile trying to process what all just happened.
It is decided.
I have to see this boy again.
~
"I'm telling you Spencer, this boy is something else."
"You had a 5 minute conversation with him, calm down Brendon."
"Sorry, I just.. felt different around him."
"Don't let Sarah hear you." Spencer laughed. It was a joke, she's not even here with us.
"I mean, I love Sarah and I plan on being married with her for a long time. But this Ryan kid, I think I want to get to know him."
"Like platonically?"
Platonic. I had never thought about that.
"Maybe.. if I do, it's gonna have to be that. I just hope it works out." Of course it will work out, everything always works out for me.
"But he makes damn good coffee, I'll say that much." I sipped the coffee.
Spencer nodded, "Well we better get ready, Dallon and the band will be here soon and we don't want to look like we're slacking."
Dallon. right.
