"Ow", I said then suddenly I went under. I felt all my senses numb and the light going out then suddenly someone grabbed my arm and pulled me up sharply.

"What the hell did you think you were doing", Oliver yelled harshly. I sat up and spit out water coughing and gagging.

"Are you trying to get yourself killed?" he questioned angrily.

"No", I said angrily.

"Then what were you doing?" he asked seriously.

"It doesn't matter besides what do you care?" I said pulling away.

"What is that supposed to mean?" he said shocked.

"It means why do you care what happens to me as soon as Josie's back it'll be like I don't exist", I said harshly.

"Sam", he said still shocked.

"I don't care anyway it's nothing new no one ever cared deep down my dad left my mom didn't even look at me my friends kind of cared guys used me over and over again like a napkin girls used me Josie you everyone else no one cares", I said leaning against the tree, "I'm no good at anything anyway I'm not even pretty anymore Josie was right".

"Sam don't say that don't you dare say that", he said shaking me.

"I'm saying the truth that's the way it is I know everything I know that Josie wants me gone you hate me Sage is safer without me and so are the twins I'm no good I'm better off dead", I said hatefully.

"Sam wake up I'm serious this isn't you", he said slapping me.

"It is though the moment I was born my dad left because I wasn't a boy when I stabbed Josie I lost everything else I lost me and when she tortured me she told me the truth I was only good for two things that's when she did this", I said showing him the scar on my lip, "she drank my blood like it was wine the guys used me it's all I'm good at nothing good is ever going to happen for me".

"Oh god Sam is this why you've been hiding", he asked sitting down beside me.

"What exactly were you expecting Oliver you broke my heart and Josie broke everything else I'm hideous inside and out I can't handle it anymore", I snapped.

"Sam just let it out I know you've been holding stuff in for a long time you need to let go of the past", he said softly. I started to cry and I didn't stop I cried into his shoulder and he just soothed me and stroked my hair. He covered me with his jacket to keep me warm and I leaned against him for warmth. We stayed there for a long time and I fell asleep in his arms and he carried me back to the hotel room.

"Is she okay?" Sage asked.

"She's okay she just needs to warm up hon", Oliver assured her.

"Okay dad you okay?" she asked.

"Yeah I think so", he sighed and I felt myself hit the pillow. I fell asleep long before Sage slid into the bed. I woke up and the sun was beaming in on us.

"God is the sun always that bright", I moaned.

"I think so I'm not sure", Sage groaned.

"Someone turn it off", I said and Sage put her pillow over my face, "thank you".

"I see what you mean turn it off", she groaned. I put the pillow over her head and turned around burying my head in the pillow.

"Are you guys waking up", Oliver asked. We both had our heads down with the pillows over top and the blankets covering us.

"Do we have to?" we both whined.

"If we want to get out of here by midnight", he said.

"WHAT?" we both said whipped up then we both fell onto the floor.

"I've made a decision we're going back to Houston", he explained.

"Thank you thank you thank you", I said getting up and hugged him.

"No problem you can help Sage pack while I pack your bag is in the car", he said certainly.

"Okay", I said cheerfully. He laughed and shook his head then went into his room.

"Okay kiddo what do you want to pack", I said calmly. We packed and got everything into the car then had lunch. We had sandwiches then went out and got into the car. Sage, Oliver and I played I see for a long time then listened to music for awhile. I sat in the backseat with Sage and she fell asleep head in my lap. I stroked her hair soothingly while she slept.

"She's a lot like her mom", I said leaning my head against the door.

"Actually she's a lot like you and not in a good way", he laughed.

"Hey I wasn't that bad", I said punching him in the shoulder. He raised his eyebrow and I sighed.

"Okay I was but it any luck she'll be a better dresser", I sighed.

"With any luck she'll avoid the trucker talk", he laughed.

"We can only hope", I snorted.

"I hope she gets Josie's sense of humor", I teased.

"Hey", he said. I laughed and he joined in. It was easy talking to Oliver like I'd known him my whole life. I didn't feel that connection anymore I didn't love and couldn't love anyone and I probably won't ever love anyone. I cared deeply about Sage though she was like a daughter to me and with Josie evil full time right now she needed someone to take her place. I liked Oliver too despite everything I said. He was easy to talk to when he was in a good mood and his laugh made me want to join in. His eyes Sage's eyes were interested and complicated but in a good way and that smile it was alluring and drew everyone in.

"I'm exhausted", I yawned.

"Go ahead and sleep it'll take awhile to get there", he assured me.

"Okay you know this car has auto drive you should get some sleep too", I said concerned.

"Don't worry about me", he reassured me.

"Alright goodnight", I yawned.

"Goodnight", he said softly. I closed my eyes and fell asleep soon after. I woke up with the sun beaming in with Sage still asleep in my lap. Oliver was asleep too so I just looked at the window at the rustic scenery in between towns. We were in California now I could see the palm trees and they made me laugh.

"What's so funny?" Sage asked.

"The palm trees they're waving at us", I said amused. She started laughing too and soon we were in a giggle fit.
