I don't know how long ago the man Rowan had spoken to had left us, but I did know that something was wrong, terribly wrong. I felt like I was on fire, my skin burning like a solid type of flame. Rowan held me, walking slowly as the fever I had swelled and grew like an inferno.

Though as hot as I was, I was shivering, practically convulsing in Rowan's arms. He was worried, and I didn't blame him, because I was starting to wonder if I was going to live through the day or not. "R-rown?" My teeth chattered, making it harder to understand my stuttering. He looked down at me, holding me closer to him if it were possible.

"What do you need?" He asked softly, treating me as if I were a pup.

"What's h-happening to me?" He kissed my forehead and held me tighter, and it probably would have hurt, but I had gone numb several hours ago.

"I don't know, but I'm going to get you better, okay? I promise." My teeth chattered more.

"Don't make promises you can't keep."
